He has a year to run on his deal.

Ryley Sanders is being sounded out by the Adelaide Crows about a possible trade move. We’ve got an aging midfield that you guys keep telling us about consistently, and we know that too,” Leppitsch told AFL Trade Radio on Tuesday.

“We want to slowly develop that part of the field. We’ve still got some great young talent with Ned Long and obviously Nick Daicos … at a young age.

“You also see things Beau McCreery going through there late in the year, so to see the excitement of options we could put through there, we do have some good young talent.

“So, I guess it’s providing the support around that as our veterans retire.”

The 28-year-old Oliver is contracted for another five seasons on big money — prospectively making a trade complex — but it’s been reported the Dees are prepared to pay up to $700,000 of his annual salary in order to accommodate a beneficial deal.

12.40PM – FLANDERS DEAL STRUCK

A trade that will send Gold Coast’s Sam Flanders to St Kilda has reportedly been agreed on.

AFL Media’s Callum Twomey reports Flanders will move to the Saints in exchange for Pick 7 in a deal that could happen on Tuesday, if not, Wednesday.

It would give Gold Coast picks 6, 7, 14 and 17 and help the club’s bid for Christian Petracca.

12.30PM – ROGERS ANOTHER SUN ON ‘WATCH’

Another Sun on the move?

Jake Rogers is another Gold Coast player to “watch” this trade period.

Seven’s Xander McGuire revealed Rogers’ management has been assessing potential interest from clubs in the former Pick 14 academy product, who’s contracted for 2026.

That comes after Rogers has played only 18 games across hist first two seasons including missing time in 2025 due to injury.

11.15AM – REIDY JOINS BLUES IN FIRST OFFICIAL DEAL OF TRADE PERIOD

We have our first deal of the trade period!

Paperwork was lodged on Tuesday morning for Fremantle ruckman Liam Reidy’s trade to Carlton.

The Blues land Reidy and picks 53 and 71 in exchange for picks 50 and 68.

The Dockers ruckman has played only three AFL games across two seasons and helps replenish Carlton’s ruck stocks after losing Tom De Koning to St Kilda.

‘You Do Not FUMBLE Petracca!’ ‘AWKWARD’ REASON DONS HOLD THE CARDS AMID DEMANDS FOR MERRETT ‘GODFATHER’ OFFER

The Hawks have been warned they’ll need a massive offer to convince Essendon to trade captain Zach Merrett, with the “most awkward” part of the saga already dealt with.

Complicating matters as Sam Mitchell’s men eye a blockbuster trade for Merrett is their interest in 2026 free agent Zak Butters.

“Hawthorn wants to give something of quality for Zach Merrett, but they don’t want to give so much that they’ve got nothing left in regards to a Zak Butters deal,” Jon Ralph explained on Fox Footy’s Trading Day.

But his Herald Sun colleague Glenn McFarlane explained the Bombers hold the cards in this scenario.

Steele could be a ‘steal’ It was incredibly awkward there, you had a best-and-fairest winner who’s not sitting at the leadership table with the rest of the group, he’s sitting with some mates.

“The speech didn’t go down well with a lot of people, a lot of past Essendon players were not that happy.

“So the awkward stuff has happened – if Hawthorn do not come with a compelling, capital-C compelling offer, they’ll hold firm because they know he’s such a pro he’ll get back (into regular training).”

He added: “If it gets done, this’ll be the last trade done”.

Zach Merrett of the Bombers high fives fans after winning the round eight AFL match between Essendon Bombers and North Melbourne Kangaroos at Marvel Stadium, on May 01, 2025, in Melbourne, Australia. It obviously came through late last week, so we got the call from his management and thought we’d definitely do the work. It’s a position of need for us so on face value, it’s something to look into,” Pies list boss Justin Leppitsch said on Trade Radio.

Adelaide also holds some interest after missing out on Oliver’s teammate Christian Petracca.

“There is a bit more work that has to go into that, but I think the quality of players like that, or individuals, you certainly need to do your work.
