Charles Leclerc\u2019s emotional attachment to his team is one of the strongest on the F1 grid. But he\u2019s now willing to follow his head, rather than his heart.<\/p>\n

Leclerc<\/a> broke into F1 through the Ferrari driver academy and has raced for the Scuderia since 2019. In that period, he has won eight races, including two unforgettable victories at Monza.<\/p>\n

Next year, he will overtake Kimi Raikkonen for second place on the all-time Ferrari<\/a> appearance list. Only Michael Schumacher would be above him at that stage.<\/p>\n

But as reported by Corriere dello Sport<\/a>, Leclerc\u2019s future beyond that is increasingly uncertain. While he, like the rest of the grid, will wait to see the pecking order under the new regulations before making a decision, he\u2019s already started speaking to rival teams.<\/p>\n

Charles Leclerc has already started speaking to Mercedes<\/p>\n

While Leclerc\u2019s dream is to win a title at Ferrari, he\u2019s realised that he can\u2019t \u2018jeopardise his entire career\u2019 in pursuit of that objective. The Monegasque finished runner-up in the 2022 standings but he\u2019d justifiably argue that the team have never \u2013 across seven seasons \u2013 given him a car good enough to sustain a title challenge.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s already \u2018a dense network\u2019 of options forming around Leclerc. Eight-time F1 champions Mercedes<\/a> are \u2018at the centre\u2019 of it, along with McLaren.<\/p>\n

Mercedes\u2019 priority target is Max Verstappen<\/a>, but his bond with Red Bull rival Leclerc\u2019s with Ferrari. Toto Wolff may already have formed a blockbuster plan-b.<\/p>\n

As for McLaren, Oscar Piastri has been linked with Ferrari<\/a>, so there may be an opportunity for a de facto seat swap. Leclerc\u2019s entourage have started \u2018discussions\u2019 with \u2018several\u2019 candidates already.<\/p>\n

Corriere\u2019s report adds that Leclerc angered some of Ferrari\u2019s engineers with his critical remarks in Singapore. Leclerc qualified seventh and finished sixth after losing a battle with Mercedes\u2019 Kimi Antonelli.<\/p>\n

After the race, he said: \u201cMercedes has made great strides forward, just like Red Bull had a few races ago, but we haven\u2019t. In these conditions, it\u2019s difficult to be optimistic and think that the situation can change in the final races.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s truth to his comments, as evidenced by Mercedes leapfrogging Ferrari for second and Red Bull closing to within eight points. Leclerc is becoming increasingly frustrated with his team\u2019s lack of progress.<\/p>\n

One journalist went as far as to suggest that Leclerc had a look of \u2018total resignation\u2019<\/a> after the race. He\u2019ll be 29 by the end of next season and he can\u2019t afford to simply assume that his chance will come.<\/p>\n

Ferrari are interested in Gabriel Bortoleto<\/a>, while Haas youngster Oliver Bearman is also on their books.
