The Buffalo Sabres<\/a> placed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev<\/a> on waivers as the team gets set to open the season on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Georgiev, 29, joined the Sabres on a one-year, $825,000 deal on Sept. 12.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-1 netminder finished last season with the San Jose Sharks<\/a> after he, along with forward Nikolai Kovalenko<\/a>, and two draft picks, were acquired from the Colorado Avalanche<\/a> in exchange for netminder Mackenzie Blackwood<\/a>, forward Givani Smith<\/a>, and a draft pick last December.<\/p>\n

He had a 15-26-4 record with a 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage split between the Avalanche and Sharks last season.<\/p>\n

Georgiev was within the top two in the NHL in wins prior to last season, recording 40 wins in 2022-23 and 38 wins in 2023-24 while a member of the Avalanche.<\/p>\n

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers<\/a> in 2017, Georgiev has a career 151-108-26 record with a .903 save percentage and 2.99 GAA split between the Rangers, Avalanche, and Sharks.<\/p>\n

A native of Ruse, Bulgaria, Georgiev represents Russia on the international stage and has a bronze medal from the 2019 World Championship.<\/p>\n

The Anaheim Ducks<\/a> also placed netminder Ville Husso<\/a> on waivers Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Husso, 30, finished last season with the Ducks after he was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> on Feb. 25 for future considerations.<\/p>\n

He appeared 13 games last season, going 2-6-3 with an .890 save percentage and 3.47 goals-against average split between the Red Wings and Ducks.<\/p>\n

He also had a 15-6-4 record in the AHL split between the Grand Rapids Griffins and San Diego Gulls with a .910 save percentage and 2.64 GAA.<\/p>\n

Husso then signed a two-year, $4.4 million extension that carries a $2.2 million cap hit in the off-season.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-3 netminder is entering the first season of a two-year, $4.4 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $2.2 million.<\/p>\n

Drafted 94th overall by the St. Louis Blues<\/a> in 2014, Husso has a career 71-46-19 record with a .901 save percentage and 3.05 GAA split between the Blues, Red Wings, and Ducks.<\/p>\n
