Liam Lawson revealed that he has “no idea” what the promotion of Laurent Mekies could mean for his own future within the Red Bull family.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Three days after the British Grand Prix, it was announced that long-time team boss Christian Horner had been axed following 20 years of leading Red Bull.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mekies was immediately confirmed as Horner’s successor and left his position at Racing Bulls to become team principal and CEO of Red Bull.<\/p>\n
It is a seismic change within the Red Bull organisation, with Mekies becoming just the second-ever person to lead the Milton Keynes-based squad.<\/p>\n
The Frenchman’s move has already triggered speculation that Isack Hadjar’s chances of a promotion could be greater, whilst Lawson is unsure what it means for him.<\/p>\n
Asked what Mekies’ promotion could mean for his own future, Lawson told select media, including RacingNews365: “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea, and it’s not something that I’m really thinking about now.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I have 12 more races to go through this year, and they’re very, very important. So for me, it’s just focusing on that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I’m sure the communication with Laurent will stay as it has been, because he’s somebody that is very supportive through, as I said, through everything.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“But in terms of what it means for my future, I honestly, I don’t know at this point.”<\/p>\n

Mekies’ appointment as Horner’s replacement was a leading topic on media day ahead of this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix, with nobody yet to disagree with the choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lawson is confident Mekies will deliver for Red Bull, should he be “trusted” to do what he does best.<\/p>\n
Discussing if Mekies is what Red Bull needs, Lawson said: “It’s hard to say. I just know that he’s going to do a very, very good job regardless.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“And so I think it’s hard to say what the team needs, yeah, probably some consistency.
