Wednesday\u2019s $250-a-head procurement event at The Star attracted more than 1000 business leaders, with Olympic organisers calling for Queensland companies to make bids for Games services, including everything from catering to cleaning, medical services, technology and fencing.<\/p>\n

Liveris said small- and medium-size Queensland businesses could make up a large percentage of Olympic service providers.<\/p>\n
About 50 protesters unhappy with the government\u2019s decision to build a new stadium at Victoria Park picketed outside the casino.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is absolutely the wrong site,\u201d campaigner Sue Bremner told a small media pack.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know everyone is excited because we\u2019ve won two grand finals in the last two weeks, and we\u2019re excited \u2013 we\u2019re not saying no to any stadium, we\u2019re just saying not Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s too expensive. It\u2019s too difficult, and it can\u2019t be done on time without a lot of extra money, which will put taxpayers in Queensland into debt for a very long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Queensland Sports Minister Tim Mander, himself a former NRL referee, said he respected the rights of protesters, but they wouldn\u2019t sway the government\u2019s plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe live in a democracy, and it\u2019s great that people can do that freely and safely,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we are committed to Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe support that fully, so they can protest. We\u2019ll continue to progress forward with regards to what needs to be done at Victoria Park.\u201d<\/p>\n
