Late-night hosts discuss Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s unhelpful comments on the ongoing government shutdown, Ghislaine Maxwell and Fox News being too \u201cpolitically correct\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> continued to keep tabs on the government shutdown on Tuesday evening, as essential workers such as air traffic controllers were still required to work without pay. \u201cMeanwhile Congress, the people who actually shut the government down, are getting paid in full,\u201d he said. \u201cDon\u2019t even try to make sense of it. The logic doesn\u2019t fly, and I would recommend that you don\u2019t either, at least for quite awhile.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Asked earlier this week if furloughed employees would receive retroactive compensation once the shutdown is over, as required by law, Trump demurred: \u201cIt really depends on who you\u2019re talking about. But for the most part, we\u2019re going to take care of our people. There are some people who really don\u2019t deserve to be taken care of, and we\u2019ll take care of them in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy does he always sound like the dumbest member of the crime family?\u201d Kimmel joked.<\/p>\n

Kimmel reminded viewers that the Democrats were holding out on signing the Republican budget bill because it would cause millions of Americans to lose their healthcare. \u201cRepublicans deny this,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey say it won\u2019t hurt anyone at all. And if you had any doubt that they were lying before, consider this shocking post from the gentlewoman from Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n

That would be Marjorie Taylor Greene, a rightwing conspiracist and frequent Kimmel target who posted on X that though she was not a fan of Obamacare, she was breaking rank with Republicans and opposing a bill that would double her own adult child\u2019s healthcare premiums. \u201cNo I\u2019m not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know this sounds crazy, but I will say it for the second time in a month: Marjorie Taylor Greene is right,\u201d said Kimmel, though he also added: \u201cI need something to wash out my mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Show<\/p>\n

On the Daily Show, guest host Josh Johnson mocked Trump for botching any semblance of chill when it came to Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Asked if he would consider pardoning Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker, Trump claimed that he hadn\u2019t heard her name \u201cfor such a long time\u201d.<\/p>\n

Johnson disputed this. \u201cPeople say 2025 didn\u2019t have a summer song of the year, but no! The song of the summer was the reporters asking Ghislaine Maxwell,\u201d he said. \u201cIf it was eligible, it would\u2019ve been number one on Billboard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump also said he would \u201cspeak to the DA\u201d about a potential pardon. When reminded by a reporter that she was convicted of child sex trafficking, Trump responded: \u201cI\u2019m going to have to take a look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHey man, maybe when you hear the words \u2018child sex trafficking\u2019, the next thing you say shouldn\u2019t be \u2018I\u2019m going to look at it,\u2019 alright?\u201d Johnson said. \u201cThe only way to phrase that worse is to say \u2018Now, I gotta see this!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Not helping his case, Trump brought up that Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs, whom Trump referred to by his old moniker \u201cPuff Daddy\u201d, also asked for a pardon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait, so you don\u2019t remember Ghislaine, but you remember that we used to call Diddy Puff Daddy?\u201d Johnson marveled. \u201cThat was nine names ago!\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> noted that the Nobel prize winners are expected to be announced this week. \u201cOh, that\u2019s going to put him in a good mood,\u201d he deadpanned, referring to Trump\u2019s public desire to win the peace prize. \u201cBetter batten down the hatches, Portland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I know he doesn\u2019t deserve it, but can we please just give it to him?\u201d he joked. \u201cIt\u2019s all he wants, and I honestly think he\u2019ll spend the rest of his life admiring it in the mirror and we\u2019ll just never see him again.\u201d<\/p>\n

In other news, Trump posted on Truth Social earlier this week that Republicans are displeased with his former favorite network Fox News for trying to be too \u201cpolitically correct\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that\u2019s Fox News\u2019s problem,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cToo politically correct? The original name for Fox & Friends was Three Dudes & a Broad.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his rambling post, Trump added that his administration needed to fix media bias against Republican politicians. \u201cDude, how many times do you have to win before you stop complaining?\u201d Meyers wondered. \u201cThis is like if the \u201992 dream team complained about the refs.\u201d<\/p>\n
