Dave Hughes<\/a> almost died last month – and it has given him a new lease on life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The comedian\u00a0has been discharged from hospital and is on the mend after he\u00a0was left battered and bruised following a heavy collision in a charity AFL<\/a> Legends Game in September.<\/p>\n

Hughes suffered multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung during the contest while lining up for Victoria against the All Stars.<\/p>\n

The comedian told the KIIS Network’s Will & Woody <\/a>show this week that he is feeling positive after the experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I nearly died but I’m going to say it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. So, it was a real moment,’ he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dave explained that he was not taken to hospital until\u00a05am on the morning after the injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘On the night, I looked like I was at death’s door but some people thought I was bunging it on, and so I didn’t go to hospital on the night,’ he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His wife Lisa took him to a Melbourne hospital after hours of the TV star moaning in pain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘My first thought was not for my own safety. My first thought was, “Let’s get the media involved here and start doing interviews”,’ he joked.\u00a0<\/p>\n

True to his word, Dave conducted several media interviews from the ICU despite being heavily medicated on morphine and struggling to breathe.<\/p>\n

The injury occurred after a crunching clash with former AFL players Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe and Mitch Robinson, with Hughes bravely continuing to play despite the obvious pain<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, he even stayed on to celebrate with teammates following the final siren before his condition worsened overnight.<\/p>\n

His wife later drove him to hospital, where doctors confirmed the extent of his injuries and began treatment.<\/p>\n

The Project star revealed that his clash with\u00a0Embley caused his most serious injuries.<\/p>\n

Hughes, who was clattered a few times in the match, isn’t holding any grudges but says Gorringe should have warned him.<\/p>\n

‘Of all the acts that happened –\u00a0 he just couldn’t give me a heads-up he was going to do it?’ Hughes said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gorringe has since apologised for his knock on Hughes in the match.<\/p>\n

‘I just want to say that I am so sorry for my little thump on you last night that has obviously caused so much damage, you look so sore right now,’ he told 92.9 Triple M Breakfast with Xav & Katie.<\/p>\n

‘How brave were you, big fella, to continue with the game… I’m thinking of you.’<\/p>\n
