Seventh-seeded Alex de Minaur<\/a> became the third player this season to win 50 tour-level games by defeating Nuno Borges 7-5, 6-2 at the Shanghai Masters.<\/p>\n

De Minaur hit 19 winners on the way to reach his seventh Masters 1000 quarter-final in one hour and 47 minutes.<\/p>\n

Only top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz with 67 wins and Taylor Fritz with 50 have already reached the 50-win mark in 2025. The Aussie has won more matches than world No.2 Jannik Sinner this year, primarily due to the Italian’s inactivity during his doping ban.<\/p>\n

“For me, it just shows consistency and that is what I am most proud of,” said de Minaur of his landmark.<\/p>\n

“Showing up every single week, and it is an amazing number.<\/p>\n

“I am hoping for many more to finish off the year and not stay at 50. It has been a successful trip to Asia so far.<\/p>\n

“I told myself at the start of the week it was all going to be a big mental effort to go out there and compete.<\/p>\n

“I am happy to be in the quarter-finals and give myself another opportunity.”<\/p>\n

In his previous best season, De Minaur had 47 wins in 2024, and two titles.<\/p>\n

He will next face 16th-seeded Daniil Medvedev who defeated Learner Tien 7-6 (6), 6-7 (1), 6-4.<\/p>\n

Also, the 12th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime knocked out eighth-seeded Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2 to set up up a quarterfinal against Arthur Rinderknech who upset another seeded player, No.15 Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-6 (5).<\/p>\n

Musetti’s defeat benefits de Minaur as they’re direct rivals to grab a place in the eight-man ATP Finals in Turin.<\/p>\n

The Italian is on 3435 points in eighth place, 110 behind de Minaur in seventh.
