The trade was confirmed at AFL House just after 5pm.

It marks the first time a draft pick has been traded two years in advance in a landmark move after the added flexibility was brought in this year.

The 29-year old high-flyer departs West Coast after 125 games including the 2018 premiership.

St Kilda has now landed Ryan, Tom De Koning, Jack Silvagni and Sam Flanders but pulled out of its pursuit of Leek Aleer in a stunning move.

2.30PM — SHOCK AS SAINTS PULL OUT OF ALEER PURSUIT

St Kilda has reportedly pulled out of its pursuit for Leek Aleer.

AFL Media’s Callum Twomey reports the Saints, after pursing Aleer for several months and the defender requesting a trade to the club, will no longer pursue the defender.

The Giants and Saints had already began negotiations on a deal.

1.45PM — BAZ’S CHEEKY INSTA PLAY IN MORE CURNOW NOISE

Geelong star Bailey Smith has cheekily added fuel to the Charlie Curnow trade fire, right as it seemed like Sydney was in the box seat.

The Swans are seen as frontrunners given their greater trade collateral, despite previous reports indicating Kardinia Park was his destination of choice.

Smith, who is business partners with the Geelong Falcons product off the field, posted a photo of Curnow and some footies to his Instagram story on Thursday — with the pair clearly training together. He tagged Curnow in the post.

It’ll do nothing to quell speculation that a Curnow-Cats move is still on, and it comes after a since-deleted post by Smith during the Cats’ Mad Monday celebrations last week, captioned “we’re taking the chopper in next year @charliecurnow”.

It comes as AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge expressed his belief on Thursday that a Curnow deal would eventually get done.

“Having been 50-50 on Monday, I am now confident a deal will get done,” he told AFL Trade Radio of the chances of Curnow departing Carlton.

Bailey Smith trains with Geelong trade target Charlie Curnow. (via Bailey Smith on Instagram.)Source: Supplied

1PM – DEES LIST BOSS ADDRESSES BIG TRADE NAMES

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb has been asked about several trade storylines relating to the Demons.

On Christian Petracca’s desire to get to Gold Coast, Lamb stressed to AFL Trade Radio the two clubs had only had “preliminary discussions” around what a deal could look like.

But Lamb said the Demons, like other Victorian-based clubs, were well aware of the Suns’ reluctance to trade top-10 draftee Bailey Humphrey.

“I think in these situations you need to be really respectful in that Gold Coast have made their position clear publicly on a number of occasions that Bailey Humphrey is not on the trade table,” Lamb told AFL Trade Radio. “So you’ve got to respect that, that’s where they sit and that’s their position.“

Lamb said midfielder Clayton Oliver hadn’t let the Demons know where he’d like to play footy next season, but added: “From the media speculation, it appears like he’s going to want to potentially go to the Giants. But we haven’t spoken to the Giants, we haven’t spoken to Clayton and a deal still needs to be worked out.”

Lamb said he also expected premiership defender Steven May to still be at the Demons next year, while he was hopeful Brody Mihocek would join the club as a free agent – although Melbourne and Collingwood are in discussions around whether the move should be done via a trade.

12.25PM — ‘LOT OF WORK’ LEFT FOR HAWKS TO LAND MERRETT

Hawthorn football boss Rob McCartney has remained tight-lipped over his club’s prospects of landing Zach Merrett and/or Bailey Humphrey this trade period.

The Hawks have been active in their pursuit of Merrett, despite the Bombers captain’s contract status and Essendon’s unwillingness to trade him.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio on Thursday morning, McCartney wouldn’t detail if he’d had conversations with the Bombers about a potential Merrett deal.

Asked if he was confident Merrett would be a Hawk by the end of the trade period, McCartney said: “It’s a difficult one to answer. Obviously there’s a lot of work that still needs to be done at present for that to take place.

“We’ve made no secret, though, We want to get better as a football club. We performed really well this year and got to a prelim final. But Hawthorn is a club that’s built on premierships and players of the calibre of Zach would help us get a little bit closer. That’s why our interest lies there.”

Like Merrett, Humphrey is contracted to Gold Coast, which has no intention of trading out their 2022 top-10 draftee.

McCartney confirmed the Hawks had interest in Humphrey, but acknowledged it’d be difficult to strike a deal.

“Just recently it came out that a number of clubs had interest in Bailey,” he said.

“We’ve said right from the start the area of our list build we think we need to do a little bit of work in is in that midfield-forward space. It’s not unusual that it’s come about he’s become a player that, again, could possibly make us better. We joined the line of a few that had interest in him.

“I did listen to (Suns list boss) Craig Cameron this morning. He’s been a little bit like Essendon in that the messaging is he’s a required player.”

11.15AM — FRINGE PORT RUCK ‘OPEN TO ANY VIC CLUB’

Port Adelaide’s Ivan Soldo is again keen on a trade, according to 9News chief football reporter Tom Morris.

After being traded from Richmond to the Power after the 2023 season, Soldo 12 months ago was keen to leave the Power after playing eight games in his first season at Alberton — yet couldn’t find a home.

After just one AFL game in 2025, Soldo is again on the hunt for a new club, per Morris.

“Victorian clubs looking for ruck depth believe Ivan Soldo is again a trade option this year,” Morris wrote on X.

“Soldo has one year remaining on his deal at Port and was largely injury free throughout 2025.

“The ruck was keen to get to @stkildafc in 2024, it didn’t work out, but he’s open to any Vic club now.”

Morris said the likes of Essendon, Carlton, Geelong, Melbourne and St Kilda would be Victorian clubs possibly looking for ruck depth, depending on how the Rowan Marshall trade plays out.

A 2019 premiership Tiger, Soldo has played 66 AFL games in 11 seasons.

10:45AM — BLUES A STEP CLOSER TO LANDING EAGLE

Carlton is getting closer to landing Campbell Chesser from West Coast, with “progress on a deal”, according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.

Carlton’s Pick 41 could be part of a deal that sends the former Sandringham Dragons product back to Victoria.

Chesser has played 36 games at the Eagles but has struggled for continuity throughout his career due to injury issues.

As a result, he’s been unable to lock down a permanent spot in Andrew McQualter’s side, but the highly touted junior has plenty of untapped potential which could be brought to the surface in a fresh environment.

Mcvee a docker, Starcevich an Eagle | 00:32

9.50AM — BLUNT REALITY FOR HUMPHREY AMID MEGA SUNS UPDATE

Gold Coast list boss Craig Cameron has reiterated his club’s firm stance that Bailey Humphrey won’t be traded.

Cameron also revealed he’d had “preliminary discussions” with Melbourne over a Christian Petracca trade and that Bulldog Jamarra Ugle-Hagan would undergo a medical at the Suns on Thursday.

Cameron insisted “no one has rung us” about Jed Walter and that Jake Rogers wasn’t for trade.
