Geelong<\/a> has made an extraordinary move in its bid to prise gun key forward Charlie Curnow<\/a> out of Carlton<\/a>, offering the Blues three first-round draft picks for the dual Coleman Medallist.<\/p>\n

Geelong and Sydney<\/a> are both chasing the signature of the 28-year-old, whose desire to leave Carlton has been public knowledge for weeks.<\/p>\n

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey, who broke the news of Geelong’s offer to Carlton, says the three first-round picks are spread across the 2025, 2026 and 2027 drafts.<\/p>\n

Geelong superstar Bailey Smith posted on Instagram on Thursday a picture of himself and Curnow training together.<\/p>\n

The Cats are wanting Curnow to form a partnership with fellow Coleman Medal winner Jeremy Cameron in the coming years, much in the same way that Cameron and Tom Hawkins wreaked havoc at Geelong in recent seasons.<\/p>\n

Curnow is contracted to the Blues until the end of 2029.<\/p>\n

“The club’s made it really clear that from our perspective Charlie’s got four years on a deal and we expect him to be at Carlton for those four years,” said Carlton footy boss Chris Davies on Monday, the opening day of the trade period.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think it’s going to be helpful for me to go into hypotheticals about [a trade offer] right now.<\/p>\n

“But it’s fair to say that from our perspective Charlie’s got a contract for the next period of time and there’s nothing that has come to us that would have us reconsider that.”<\/p>\n

Whether Geelong’s offer of three first-round draft picks is enough for Carlton to “reconsider” a trade remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

Oliver wants to be a Giant<\/p>\n

Unwanted midfield bull Clayton Oliver has chosen GWS as his preferred destination, according to 9News’ Tom Morris.<\/p>\n

Oliver had been in talks with both GWS and Collingwood but it appears the unwanted Demon is set to join the Giants in the trade period.<\/p>\n

The triple All-Australian is contracted to Melbourne until the end of 2030, but the Demons don’t want him and his relationship with the club has become untenable.<\/p>\n

Asked by a Seven reporter in a door-stop interview this week what he liked about Collingwood, Oliver said with a grin: “I like them [the Pies] better than Melbourne. That’s for sure.”<\/p>\n

Saints backflip leaves Aleer ‘livid’<\/p>\n

St Kilda has told GWS key defender Leek Aleer it’s not able to get him to the club<\/a>, blindsiding the 24-year-old and leaving him “livid”.<\/p>\n

The Saints had promised him for two years that he would be welcomed to the club in this year’s trade period, only to tell him on Thursday that they didn’t have the picks to do so.<\/p>\n

The off-contract Aleer will now either find another club over the remaining six days of the trade period, or re-sign with the Giants, who want him to stay.<\/p>\n

Leer’s manager roasted the Saints in a statement provided to 9News.<\/p>\n

“This came as an absolute shock,” Dylan Smith said.<\/p>\n

“They’ve been whining [sic] and dining for him for two years. They loved where he was at and finally turned his head.<\/p>\n

“They got him in, had the meetings and convinced him that the Saints was where he should be. It was a good fit. It was a career move and a four-year [contract] playing alongside Jack Silvagni and others.<\/p>\n

“Today they backflipped because they don’t have the picks for him. It’s disappointing. They should be prepared for this after two years. They couldn’t get a future second-rounder for him.<\/p>\n

“Leek is not happy and to be honest, lived with the situation. Clubs have rung me and said ‘it’s a disgrace, what have they done?’ Nobody from the Saints has spoken to him.”<\/p>\n

Flyin’ Ryan lands at Saints<\/p>\n

St Kilda secured star small forward Liam Ryan in a trade with West Coast on Thursday.<\/p>\n
