Travellers narrowly avoided a frightening encounter with a saltwater crocodile moments before they were about to jump into a waterhole for a swim.<\/p>\n

Jackson Coffey and his partner had trekked up a hill through bushland in West Australia\u2019s northwest to see Aboriginal cave paintings.<\/p>\n

The pair planned on going for a swim at a waterhole they passed along the way but a lucky find below the surface saved them from a terrifying ordeal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a fair way back from the water too, this wouldn\u2019t be easy, he would have to rock hop to get in here,\u201d Mr Coffey said in a video posted to social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that\u2019s the thing with crocs, you can never be too careful, you get complacent very easily.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do, I get a bit complacent, I\u2019ve been in croc country for nearly four or five months now.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t be too careful up these ways, they\u2019re bloody everywhere these crocs, and we\u2019re a fair way above sea level here, we had to climb up to get into this pool where he\u2019s hidden out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Traveller Jackson Coffey said crocodiles were everywhere in WA\u2019s northwest.<\/p>\n

The travellers hiked up a hill to see Aboriginal cave paintings in WA\u2019s northwest and planned on swimming in the waterhole on their way back when they spotted a saltwater crocodile beneath the surface.<\/p>\n

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions warned people not to be complacent in West Australia\u2019s northwest as crocodiles can be in any waterway.<\/p>\n

The website states crocodiles can remain hidden underwater for long periods of time and they cannot always be seen but people should assume all water bodies in the Kimberley contain dangerous crocodiles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWA\u2019s north west is \u2018Crocodile Country,\u2019\u201d the website states.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrocs are deadly … dangerous, and attacks can be fatal.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t become complacent.<\/p>\n
