{"id":203375,"date":"2025-10-10T16:45:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T16:45:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/203375\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T16:45:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T16:45:07","slug":"ares-opens-with-4-8-million-in-thursday-previews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/203375\/","title":{"rendered":"Ares&#8217; Opens With $4.8 Million in Thursday Previews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tron-ares\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tron: Ares<\/a>,\u201d the latest entry in a five-decade old franchise that\u2019s more of a cult favorite than a commercial juggernaut, debuted to a solid $4.8 million in Thursday previews. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe sci-fi sequel is expected to open to roughly $45 million from 4,000 North American theaters over the weekend, easily topping new releases such as Paramount\u2019s R-rated dramedy \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/roofman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roofman<\/a>,\u201d starring Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst, and \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman,\u201d a musical with Jennifer Lopez as a fantasy film queen. \u201cRoofman,\u201d which scored with critics and earned $1 million in previews, is expected to open between $8 million to $12 million from 3,340 locations, while \u201cSpider Woman\u201d should gross $1.5 million to $3 million from 1,300 screens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe opening of \u201cTron: Ares\u201d is roughly in line with 2010\u2019s \u201cTron: Legacy,\u201d which kicked off with $44 million (not adjusted for inflation). Internationally, \u201cTron: Ares\u201d is projected to earn $40 million to $45 million, which could put the global number between $85 million and $95 million by Sunday. The film will need to show some impressive staying power because those light suits and grid action didn\u2019t come cheap. \u201cTron: Ares\u201d cost $180 million to produce and tens of millions more to market. It stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee and Evan Peters and was directed by Joachim R\u00f8nning, who oversaw one of the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d movies and the sequel to \u201cMaleficent.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMiramax developed and produced \u201cRoofman,\u201d which is based on the true story of a con man who escapes from prison and hides out in a toy store. The movie cost under $20 million to make. \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman,\u201d which is based on a Tony-winning Kander and Ebb show, was financed independently for more than $30 million.
