BERKELEY, Calif. \u2013 Nadine Arbaizar Martinez won two matches Friday in the singles qualifying and two Pilot doubles teams advanced to highlight day one of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.<\/p>\n
Arbaizar Martinez defeated Zoe Pradel of Eastern Washington in three sets and then dealt Portland State’s Marta Giglia a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to earn a spot in the 64-player singles main draw.<\/p>\n
Portland’s doubles tandem of Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu as well as Meagan Pearson and Arbaizar Martinez combined to knock of two UC Davis teams to advance to the Round of 32. \nThe ITA Northwest Regional Championships, co-hosted by California and Saint Mary’s, is a qualifying tournament for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The two singles finalists and the doubles champion from each of the 13 regions will qualify for the corresponding NCAA individual championship.

\nPlayers from 17 teams will compete in the singles and doubles competitions at ITA regionals in the East Bay \u2013 Cal, UC Davis, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Stanford, Washington and Washington State.

\nAdmission is free to the regional matches in Berkeley and Moraga. A free live stream<\/a> is available for the matches at the Hellman Tennis Complex, though there is no live stream at the Channing or Korth courts.<\/p>\n
