{"id":206843,"date":"2025-10-12T02:46:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T02:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/206843\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T02:46:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T02:46:12","slug":"who-will-be-crowned-as-king-of-mount-panorama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/206843\/","title":{"rendered":"Who will be crowned as king of Mount Panorama?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defending champion Brodie Kostecki will attempt to retain Bathurst 1000 crown on Sunday in a Ford Mustang his team claims is at an \u201cirrefutable\u201d disadvantage because of the inaction of Supercars officials.<\/p>\n<p>A controversial statement released by Dick Johnson Racing on Saturday night &#8211; within hours of Kostecki claiming pole position and Ford snaring the first four positions on the grid &#8211; has questioned the credibility of this year\u2019s great race.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement, DJR said that for more than two years they had been arguing their rival Chevrolet Camaros (General Motors) had an advantage over the Mustangs at Bathurst\u2019s altitude.<\/p>\n<p>Ford has not won at Mt Panorama since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>DJR said Supercars testing leading up to this year\u2019s race had verified that barometric pressure gave the Camaros \u201can additional 10 horsepower over the Ford engine above 5900 rpm, where the engine operates for 94 per cent of a lap of Mount Panorama at full throttle. This data explains why the Mustang is slower than the Camaro in a straight line at Bathurst.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DJR said the governing body had \u201cconfirmed the problem exists. They know how to fix it. They chose not to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Brodie Kostecki\u2019s Mustang has earned him pole position.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/9cdb591c8888ee3c7708f752072fccecb048cb5f.jpeg\" height=\"390\" width=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Brodie Kostecki\u2019s Mustang has earned him pole position.Credit: Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>They added that General Motors, which manufactures the Camaros, had opposed any modifications.<\/p>\n<p>DJR appealed to stewards to resolve the dispute but said \u201cthey lacked the necessary jurisdiction to apply the remedy sought\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The DJR statement declared \u201cparity is the foundation of the Supercars Championship\u201d and \u201cSupercars have failed to implement it on the basis that GM [General Motors] declined to agree to it \u2026 Supercars chose consultation with GM over correction.
