Djokovic, who has 24 Grand Slam titles, told Corriere della Sera that their rivalry made real friendship \u201cimpossible.\u201d He said that Nadal, 39, played a big role in shaping his career, but competing for the same goals kept them apart.<\/p>\n

Novak Djokovic said that while he and Rafael Nadal respect each other deeply, they were never able to be close off the court. \u201cNadal is only a year older than me. We are both Geminis. At first, we even went to dinner together twice. But even with him, friendship is impossible,\u201d Djokovic told Corriere della Sera.He said he always admired Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer<\/a>, calling them two players who helped him become who he is today. \u201cThanks to Nadal and Federer, I grew up and became who I am. This will unite us forever,\u201d Djokovic said. He added that he has spent more time seeing Nadal across the net than he has with his own mother over the past fifteen years.Novak Djokovic also mentioned his respect for Roger Federer, saying he had \u201can extraordinary impact\u201d on tennis. But he admitted that he was never close to Federer either. \u201cI\u2019ve always had respect for Federer, but I\u2019ve never been close to him,\u201d Djokovic said.Their fierce on-court rivalry is one of the biggest in tennis history, with the two meeting 59 times since 2006.
