These stars have been shining for billions of years. In astronomy, cool stars are red, while the hottest stars are blue. The latter dominate the outskirts of this galaxy, where its spiral arms are filled with stars that are younger, hotter and larger. These stars are cosmic newborns.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p id=\"709f7e6a-211e-49a8-8d6d-45f40ff89e63\">The image, which is also available as a<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=5&amp;v=kkbuOz8AQKU&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fesahubble.org%2F&amp;embeds_referring_origin=https%3A%2F%2Fesahubble.org&amp;source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=5&amp;v=kkbuOz8AQKU&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fesahubble.org%2F&amp;embeds_referring_origin=https%3A%2F%2Fesahubble.org&amp;source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> panning video<\/a>, was produced while Hubble searched for supernova explosions \u2014 hence the incomplete framing. The aging space telescope targeted the faint glow of supernovas called SN 2007ch and SN 2010as, stars that exploded in 2007 and 2010, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>However, while imaging NGC 6000, Hubble also captured something else entirely. Look on the right-hand side of the image, and four faint broken lines can be seen \u2014 the path of an asteroid that drifted across Hubble\u2019s field of view as it took four long-exposure images of NGC 6000. The broken lines are red and blue because Hubble used red and blue filters to collect visible light, which makes it easier for astronomers to compare stars by their colors.<\/p>\n<p id=\"494d9bce-e3a3-4c33-8ac7-6c7a9847672d\">Although it\u2019s in the constellation Scorpius, which is visible in summer from the Northern Hemisphere, NGC 6000 lies south of the celestial equator, according to<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/theskylive.com\/sky\/deepsky\/ngc6000-object\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/theskylive.com\/sky\/deepsky\/ngc6000-object\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> The Sky Live<\/a>. That means it\u2019s more easily visible from the Southern Hemisphere.
