Pat Boone has paid tribute to late Black Sabbath<\/a> icon Ozzy Osbourne<\/a> \u2013 see what Boone had to say of his former neighbour below.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0death of the heavy metal pioneer and iconic Black Sabbath frontman was announced on Tuesday<\/a>\u00a0(July 22). His family said in a statement that the 76-year-old music icon was \u201csurrounded by love\u201d at the time of his passing.<\/p>\n

It came shortly after he\u00a0took to the stage for the huge \u2018Back To The Beginning\u2019 gig<\/a> in Birmingham on July 5 \u2013 marking his final show both as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath. While a cause of death has not been revealed, Ozzy had notably been dealing with a myriad of health issues for numerous years<\/a>,\u00a0including being diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s Disease in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the news of Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s passing, legendary early pop and jazz musician Pat Boone \u2013 who used to be neighbours with the Osbourne family \u2013 took to social media to pay tribute. Included in his post were images of the pair on their front yards, tending to their gardens. \u201cI am stunned. I can\u2019t believe that my former next-door neighbour and good friend has passed suddenly,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he and Sharon and the kids lived next-door to me for a couple of years, we weren\u2019t rock stars comparing careers \u2013 we were just friends and neighbours getting along just fine. I was amazed when Sharon picked my version of Ozzy\u2018s \u2018Crazy Train\u2019 as the opening theme of their hugely successful reality TV show. Others may celebrate his incredible rocking style and hard rock music \u2013 but I\u2019ll always remember his warm friendliness as my next-door neighbour. God bless you, Ozzy.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time that Boone has spoken of his fondness for Ozzy Osbourne. Speaking in previous interview with the Television Academy back in 2012, Boone reflected on their relationship living next-door to one another.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got to know Ozzy \u2013 he moved in next-door to me, right after that American Music Awards. Amazingly, he moved in right into a house that was for sale right next to us Beverly Hills. So of course we visited back and forth, and I went to visit him. He told me about being in [Alcoholics Anonymous] and says \u2018I even say an odd prayer now and then\u2019, I say: \u2018Well, it\u2019s not odd to me, Ozzy.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody but Ozzy sort of watched their language \u2013 I didn\u2019t ask him to, but it\u2019s part of his vocabulary. And so, on their show, when I tuned in to watch it when it went on the air and I heard all the excitement about The Osbournes, I\u2019m stunned to hear my record of his song \u2018Crazy Train\u2019 as their theme song. He liked my version, so did Sharon, and they used that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cOn the show, a couple of times, Sharon would say \u2018Don\u2019t you miss that nice Pat Boone\u2019. And Ozzy would say \u2018He was the best [bleep] neighbour we ever had.\u2019 DJs would ask me about that and I said \u2018yeah, because we were the only neighbours that never called the police\u2019. But we got along great, I really liked him.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 1997, Pat Boone recorded a covers album, \u2018In A Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy\u2019,in which he gave several iconic rock and metal songs his signature jazz treatments. One of the covers he recorded for the album was Ozzy\u2019s \u2018Crazy Train\u2019.<\/p>\n

Five years later, MTV premiered the Ozzy-led reality TV series, The Osbournes. Boone\u2019s jazzy rendition of \u2018Crazy Train\u2019 served as the series\u2019 opening theme throughout its entire run.<\/p>\n

Countless fans and figures from the music world have shared tributes to the \u2018Crazy Train\u2019 singer \u2013 including Zak Starkey<\/a>,\u00a0Adam Sandler<\/a>,\u00a0Ghost<\/a>\u2019s Tobias Forge,\u00a0Alice Cooper<\/a>,\u00a0Elton John<\/a>,\u00a0Yungblud<\/a>,\u00a0Billie Joe Armstrong<\/a>,\u00a0Jack White<\/a>, Coldplay<\/a>, Gojira<\/a> and Jake E Lee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Touching messages have also been shared by his Sabbath bandmates\u00a0Tony Iommi<\/a>,\u00a0Bill Ward and Geezer Butler<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As well as seeing the last performance from Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi<\/a>, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler all together, the massive \u2018Back To The Beginning\u2019 show also boasted a star-studded line-up, including Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/a>, KoRn<\/a>, Tool<\/a>, Slayer<\/a>, Pantera<\/a>, Metallica<\/a>, Alice In Chains<\/a>\u00a0and more.
