TROY, Ala. \u2013\u00a0After weather shortened the trip to the Mercer Gridiron Classic, the Troy women’s tennis team turns its focus to the ITA Southern Regional. The tournament is slated to begin Monday, October 13 and conclude Friday, October 17.

\n“The girls have been playing well over the past few tournaments,” head coach Rawia Elsisi<\/a> said. “They are very motivated and ready to compete against the best teams in our regions.”

\nAlthough the tournament was shortened, many Trojans saw success in singles action. Sama Hindawy<\/a>, Veena Nazar<\/a>, Maria Guriguis, Alexia Zarate<\/a>, Valeriia Avdeeva<\/a> and Emilia Namyslo<\/a> made it to the finals in their respective draws.\u00a0

\nHindawy, Nazar and Guirguis were battling opponents from Jacksonville State, while Zarate was taking on\u00a0Ronja Scheuermann of Florida Southern\u00a0when the tournament was called. Avdeeva and Zarate’s matches were suspended before play began.

\nIn terms of doubles action, the duos of Valeriia Avdeeva<\/a>\/ Maria Guriguis and Alexia Zarate<\/a>\/ Leena Metwally<\/a> made finals appearances in their respective draws. Day three saw the duo of Zarate and Metwally capitalize on their finals appearance and secure a victory, 7-6 (7-3). The duo of Hindawy and Namyslo also secured a victory on day three, 6-3.\u00a0\u00a0
