It\u2019s been 85 days since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) legend Dustin Poirier retired<\/a> from mixed martial arts (MMA) following his unanimous decision loss<\/a> to Max Holloway at UFC 318<\/a> in his home state of Louisiana. But last night (Sat., Oct. 11, 2025) during UFC Rio<\/a>, the former interim Lightweight champion got fans talking after posting an emotional message on social media about missing the fight game.<\/p>\n After former opponent Charles Oliveira submitted his teammate, Mateusz Gamrot (watch highlights<\/a>), a fan tweeted at Poirier saying they missed watching him compete. \u201cTrust me, I miss it too,\u201d Poirier replied. Moments later, he followed up with an even more heartfelt post:<\/p>\n \u201cEvery day, the moment my eyes open. I\u2019ve done it for two decades, dedicated my life to it…. A part of me has died.\u201d<\/p>\n Poirier walked away from the sport with a legendary resume that includes wins over former champions like Conor McGregor (twice<\/a>), Max Holloway (twice<\/a>), and Eddie Alvarez. Still, even in retirement, the itch clearly remains.
