One of the best ways to save money on a high-end smartwatch is to wait until it’s a year old. Another good method is to wait for a sales holiday. That makes this October Prime Day the perfect time to buy a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.

I’m Andrew Gebhart. I review smartwatches and fitness trackers for a living using my own heart rate, sleep cycles, and sweat. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 impressed me when I reviewed it, thanks to its extensive repertoire of features to track activity, exercise, and stress. Originally priced at $249.99, the Galaxy Watch 7 has been marked down by 40% to $149.99. That’s an excellent value for you and your wrist.

The Galaxy Watch 7 has the same processor and most of the same features as the newer Galaxy Watch 8, and I even prefer its circular design to the newer model’s squircle shape. Samsung has promised to upgrade it to the newest software, which will include access to Google’s Gemini for conversational voice assistance. It offers all of the basic connectivity and fitness features you’d expect, plus cool extras like body composition measurements, sleep apnea detection, and a holistic Energy Score to encapsulate your health stats.

The Galaxy Watch 7 came out around the same time as the $199.99 Galaxy Watch FE, which has a smaller screen and no AI features. I still recommend the Watch FE for its value, but now you don’t need to make any compromises: This Prime Day deal on the Galaxy Watch 7 puts it at an even lower price than its budget-minded sibling.

I’m PCMag’s senior writer covering smart home and wearable devices. I’ve been reporting on tech professionally for nearly a decade and have been obsessing about it for much longer than that. Prior to joining PCMag, I made educational videos for an electronics store called Abt Electronics in Illinois, and before that, I spent eight years covering the smart home market for CNET.

I foster many flavors of nerdom in my personal life. I’m an avid board gamer and video gamer. I love fantasy football, which I view as a combination of role-playing games and sports. Plus, I can talk to you about craft beer for hours and am on a personal quest to have a flight of beer at each microbrewery in my home city of Chicago.
