Comments from F1 paddock mainstays Guenther Steiner and Ralf Schumacher have lit fuel on the Oscar Piastri<\/a> rumour mill, the two pundits going head to head with that they think the Australian should do. <\/p>\n

Piastri’s future at McLaren has been a topic of contention<\/a> after the Singapore Grand Prix, where fans and paddock figures alike were angered by the Woking-based team’s moves.<\/p>\n

But although Schumacher thinks that Piastri “could go anywhere”, specifically Red Bull, Steiner thinks the Australian “shouldn’t be leaving” McLaren. <\/p>\n

“First of all, he’s going to win the world championship this year, so that’s why he should stay there,” Steiner said of Piastri on the Red Flags podcast.<\/p>\n

“Next year, wherever you go – first of all, there is no seats in the next year.<\/p>\n

“And wherever you go, you wouldn’t know where you’re going, and I think McLaren at the moment is doing a pretty good job.”<\/p>\n

Part of Piastri’s frustrations have been the treatment of him compared to fellow McLaren driver, Lando Norris.<\/p>\n

Piastri fumed at the Singapore GP after Norris overtook him early and clipped him in the process<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Steiner doesn’t think it should be as big of an issue as it’s become. <\/p>\n

“Obviously he can beat Lando. If he can beat him this year, I think his hope should be to beat him in the future as well,” Steiner stated.<\/p>\n

“Why should he leave?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t think they put him at a disadvantage; they just don’t put him at an advantage, so he has to fight for everything.<\/p>\n

“But if he wins the world championship, I think he will for sure the world champion in the team and that is what counts.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think he’s leaving. No. Shouldn’t be leaving. Should stay there.”<\/p>\n

While Steiner did state there’s no seats for next year, Schumacher on the other hand hypothesised a move to one big rival. <\/p>\n

“I believe Piastri could go anywhere,” Schumacher said on Sky Germany’s Backstage Boxengasse podcast.<\/p>\n

“Now, if Max Verstappen leaves, he could be driving a Red Bull. Well, now Horner is gone, because that is a very good friendship.<\/p>\n

“There were apparently already discussions between Mark Webber (and Red Bull). But I believe such a driver can find a place anywhere. We must not forget Aston Martin, who are probably also looking for drivers beyond 2027.”<\/p>\n
