An accused thief jumped over a railing and fell six metres in a busy shopping centre after allegedly stealing a pair of shoes in Sydney<\/a>‘s CBD.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A worker from the store on the corner of Pitt and Market Street\u00a0gave chase after the 29-year-old man allegedly grabbed the shoes about 4.25pm on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police said the man tried on the pair of shoes under the guise of purchasing them before he ran out of the store and into the nearby Westfield.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There, the man jumped over a railing and fell six metres.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A witness shared a photo of paramedics treating the man as he lay on the ground.<\/p>\n

His white t-shirt was splattered with blood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

Video shared on TikTok showed at least one entrance of the Westfield centre closed as officers attended, with shutters over the windows and door.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police and paramedics were called after the alleged theft about 4.25pm on Thursday<\/p>\n

In a separate video by the same account, a witness said their friend came to the aid of the man until paramedics arrived.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Something happening in Westfield Sydney CBD.\u00a0Apparently someone got hurt with face full of blood and paramedic came,’ the video was captioned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another witness said they initially thought the man had been stabbed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Myself and my family were walking on the bottom floor and heard moaning and we turned the corner and there was a man at the bottom of the escalators with blood everywhere and he was wiggling on the floor whilst a man was with him trying to help. I thought he was stabbed we go out of the shop fast,’ they commented.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I work in the centre just before where they blocked off, whole level one is closed,’ another wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police on Friday said inquiries into the incident were continuing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
