Hall Of Fame trainer David Hayes insists Ka Ying Rising is spot on for his tilt at Saturday\u2019s G1 The Everest at Randwick, after the Hong Kong superstar on Monday completed his final piece of work ahead of the $20 million sprint.<\/p>\n
Ka Ying Rising was put through his paces at Canterbury on Monday morning, with Hayes declaring the five-year-old, who has dominated betting for The Everest for months, \u2018ready to rumble\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really happy with him. He just went out on the beautiful Canterbury track this morning and ran home (his last 600m) in 38 (seconds) under a nice hold. His recovery was excellent,\u201d Hayes told reporters.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he\u2019s ready to rumble.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s the made the progression we thought he would and we\u2019re really expecting a bold showing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ka Ying Rising had his final pre-race trial at Randwick last Tuesday. The gelding\u2019s jockey Zac Purton, who flew in from Hong Kong for the trial, gave a candid assessment of the hit out.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019The track was a little bit soft for him. He was grinding through the ground a bit. Pass mark, needs to improve.,\u201d the Australian rider said.<\/p>\n
Hayes on Monday said last week\u2019s trial was exactly what Ka Ying Rising needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he\u2019s really improved from that trial. The idea of the trial was to bring him on and I think it has,\u201d said Hayes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really happy with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Racing\u2019s rumour mill was in overdrive across the weekend with suggestions all was not well with the four-time Group 1 winner. In fact, there was speculation that Ka Ying Rising may even be scratched from the race.<\/p>\n
On the back of the rumours, Ka Ying Rising drifted considerably in local fixed-odds markets while rivals shortened. The noise even prompted TAB to at one stage suspend betting on the race.<\/p>\n
When asked about the drama, Hayes said he was dumbfounded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got a call yesterday at lunchtime from JD, my son; (racing broadcaster) Gareth Hall had rung him and said his Twitter account had been hacked and it had sent out some false information, which basically had him scratched,\u201d Hayes explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cApparently, he was lame behind and not eating. That\u2019s not the horse I\u2019ve been training, anyway.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe phone went into meltdown for about six hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo use a\u00a0Donald \u2018Trumpism\u2019, it\u2019s fake news.\u201d<\/p>\n
OUT OF THEIR HANDS<\/p>\n
Two factors Hayes and connections can\u2019t control are the weather and barrier draw. Part of Purton\u2019s feedback on Tuesday was that the track was \u2018 a little bit soft for him\u2019. It looks as though Ka Ying Rising will get his preferred conditions on Saturday, with Sydney\u2019s weather forecast looking pleasing for the most part.<\/p>\n
Regarding the draw, Hayes is hoping for an inside alley.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think as close to the rail as possible. That would be best.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn Hong Kong, they jump and really go hard because they\u2019ve only got 200 metres to the turn, in Sydney they\u2019ve got a nice 600-700-metre run. The tempo is not quite as hectic, so the barrier is not so important for him. He\u2019s got incredible gate speed and he\u2019s got the ability to take a sit, so he\u2019s pretty foolproof.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the pace is fast, Zac will sit third, if the pace is slow, he will lead.\u201d<\/p>\n
