An AI judge will be included for the exhibition fight between YouTuber-turned-cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul<\/a> and undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.<\/p>\n

The Florida Athletic Commission confirmed one of the three judges scoring the bout will be artificial intelligence after it was first utilised as a fourth official for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury rematch late last year to remove “bias and human error” but it never factored into the result.<\/p>\n

Judging has always been a source of contention in the combat sports world but the inclusion of AI has done little to ease the discord.<\/p>\n

In the Usyk clash, human judges scored the bout in favour of the defending champ Usyk, 116-112 across the board. However, the AI judge saw the Ukrainian winning by a larger margin, ruling it 118-112, much to Fury’s chagrin.<\/p>\n

AI was used in Terence Crawford’s convincing points victory over Canelo Alvarez in September, but its score of 114-114 baffled boxing<\/a> observers, calling the competence of the system into question.<\/p>\n

While the Davis and Paul clash is not a bout that will count towards each fighter’s record, it will be aired on Netflix.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), a three-division world champion, would be the first star near his ostensible prime to face Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), the online celebrity who has become one of the world’s highest-paid combat sports athletes despite never fighting an elite boxer.<\/p>\n

The fight would mark a return to Netflix for the 28-year-old Paul, whose victory last November over the then-58-year-old Mike Tyson drew an estimated 108 million viewers globally.<\/p>\n

After Paul beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision earlier this year<\/a>, he entered the World Boxing Association’s cruiserweight rankings at No.14, making him eligible to fight for world titles.<\/p>\n
