{"id":212807,"date":"2025-10-14T13:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T13:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/212807\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T13:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T13:34:09","slug":"this-is-some-bullsht-matt-brown-scoffs-at-conor-mcgregors-18-month-suspension-from-ufc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/212807\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018This is some bullsh*t\u2019: Matt Brown scoffs at Conor McGregor\u2019s 18-month suspension from UFC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Conor McGregor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/ufc\/448875\/conor-mcgregor-suspended-18-months-under-ufcs-anti-doping-policy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">received an 18-month suspension for violating the UFC\u2019s anti-doping policy<\/a> after three Whereabouts failures, which resulted in a trio of missed drug tests for the former two-division champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In the statement issued by Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) \u2014 the in-house agency enforcing the UFC\u2019s anti-doping policy \u2014 McGregor was given a six-month reprieve from a standard two-year suspension, because he cooperated with the investigation and was not preparing for an upcoming fight when he missed the three drug tests. McGregor is cleared to compete again after March 20, 2026, which is an important date, because that won\u2019t prevent him from possibly returning at the planned UFC White House card in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The suspension and the date when McGregor is allowed to compete again raised more than a few eyebrows given the significance of that White House event, but UFC legend Matt Brown says there\u2019s a much bigger problem at the heart of this entire ordeal and it all comes down to the power the promotion maintains over every aspect of the business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cUFC controls the doping,\u201d Brown said on the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. \u201cWho\u2019s to say they\u2019re not letting certain people dope and not even saying anything? They could absolutely be doing it and just not saying anything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cDo I think they\u2019re doing that? It doesn\u2019t matter. It\u2019s irrelevant whether they are or not. If they have the power to do it, that\u2019s what matters. I don\u2019t know what it\u2019s going to take for fighters [to step up], I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s possible for fighters to ever step up and be like \u2018yo, this is some bullshit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">The UFC previously paid the United States Anti-Doping Agency to facilitate the company\u2019s anti-doping policy, but the two sides split after the most recent contract between them was coming to an end. That entire situation blew up publicly due to another infraction involving McGregor after he was plotting his return to action, which required him to get back into the UFC\u2019s anti-doping program to submit to testing again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">While the issues between the UFC and USADA apparently went much deeper than just dealing with McGregor\u2019s situation, the end result was introducing this new entity known as CSAD.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">UFC officials have stressed that CSAD operates independently with decision making regarding potential punishments or sanctions landing directly on director George Piro, who heads up the agency after he previously served in the FBI before retiring from law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">But Brown can\u2019t help but confess skepticism about the validity of McGregor\u2019s suspension or anybody else for that matter because CSAD is still fully funded and operated by the UFC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cWhoever\u2019s fighting Conor, are they not going to be like what the f*ck?\u201d Brown said. \u201cHe knows what\u2019s happening. You\u2019re going to tell me if the UFC\u2019s controlling the doping, and they\u2019re doing a White House card next year, and then say Conor fails a test the week before, are they not going to be like \u2018all right Conor, we can\u2019t really say anything right now.\u2019 What the f*ck are they going to do? Are they going to pull out Conor from the f*cking White House event?<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cOr if Jon Jones is the main event and Alex Pereira and those guys both piss hot the week before? Are they just going to stop the f*cking main event for the White House card? You\u2019ve got to think that\u2019s why they got rid of USADA and why they wanted the control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Of course, Brown never totally bought into the entire anti-doping program at the UFC anyways, because he\u2019s seen plenty of evidence that shows just how difficult it is to actually catch somebody cheating if they\u2019ve got the means and ability to beat the tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">In McGregor\u2019s case, he never tested positive for any banned substances and his suspension only dealt with him missing drug tests. That said, Brown doesn\u2019t doubt for a second that McGregor or anybody with his kinds of financial means couldn\u2019t find a way around getting busted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cIt\u2019s just not right,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe could get deep into the subject of drug testing. I think it\u2019s for the most part it\u2019s kind of garbage anyway. Not anybody but the vast majority that can afford to beat a drug test are beating the drug test. It\u2019s a cat and mouse game and the mice have a huge head start. There\u2019s things that you don\u2019t know about, that I don\u2019t know about that we\u2019ve never heard of, there\u2019s a lot of money in this industry of beating drug tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cWhen you\u2019re talking about dealing with multi-million dollar athletes around the world, and you\u2019re the guy that can help them beat a drug test and still get them on shit, you\u2019re a f*cking multi-millionaire. There\u2019s a lot of money in this shit. It\u2019s just when you\u2019re an athlete, can you afford this or not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">Regardless of the UFC\u2019s anti-doping program or the suspension issued, Brown has long believed that McGregor would never actually fight again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">It\u2019s been over four years since McGregor suffered a gruesome broken leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier and his planned return in 2024 was scrapped after he suffered a broken toe in training. Since that time, McGregor hasn\u2019t really hinted at when he would fight again until the announcement about the UFC White House card now scheduled for June 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">McGregor even teased that he wanted $100 million for his appearance at that event, which Brown believes might be an even bigger hurdle for the UFC to clear when it comes to his potential return.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cI\u2019ve said it before if you take a calculation of his net worth, it makes zero f*cking sense for him to fight for the amount of money that [the UFC] will pay him. Period,\u201d Brown said. \u201cMy conspiracy theory is he\u2019s going to want them to plan for it, but he has no intention of fighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cMy other theory is he may just be getting some PR and then be like f*ck off. Either way, he will not show up on the date of the [White House card]. He will not fight ever again in our lifetime unless it\u2019s boxing, Misfits Boxing, Conor McGregor promotions, something along those lines. For the UFC, never again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">When it comes to the UFC\u2019s control over the anti-doping program and so many other facets of the business, Brown can\u2019t help but wonder if that\u2019s ever going to change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1nfb3k4i _16w9vov1 _16w9vov0 ls9zuh1\">\u201cWe\u2019re not going to do f*cking jack shit about it,\u201d Brown said. \u201cCan we do jack shit about it?
