WEST LAFAYETTE, In. \u2013 The Bellarmine men’s tennis team sent five players to compete in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Purdue University last week, aiming for a spot in this year’s NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n
Head coach Will Davis<\/a> sent seniors Matthew Nice<\/a> and Vineet Ramesh<\/a> and freshmen Sebastian Baumann<\/a>, Colby Berson<\/a> and Ryan Parkins<\/a> to compete in West Lafayette. Nice was slated into the singles main draw while Ramesh and Baumann were placed in the qualifying singles draw. In doubles, the two seniors paired up while a pair of freshmen in Berson and Parkins also took the stage in the main doubles draw.<\/p>\n Baumann and Ramesh both won their Round of 64 bouts in the qualifying bracket. Baumann defeated Indiana’s Karan Raghavendra 7-6 (13-11), 3-6, 10-5 before falling to ETSU’s James Sim 3-6, 5-7 in the second round. Ramesh took down USI’s Axel Sabourin 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 in his opening match before dropping his second-round contest 6-2, 3-6, 7-10 to Butler’s Riccardo Baldi.<\/p>\n In doubles, Ramesh and Nice earned a first-round victory over Ball State’s Broc Fletcher and Anthony Shalakov via walk over, injury before taking a second-round loss to Indiana’s Sam Scherer and Benjamin Pomeranets 8-6. The duo of Berson\/Parkins suffered an 8-3 first round defeat to Xavier’s Alexander Kotarski and Max Pettingel.<\/p>\n Up next, Bellarmine will take nearly two weeks off before traveling to Jacksonville, FL for the UNF Invitational.<\/p>\n For more coverage of Bellarmine athletics, follow BUKnights on X, Instagram and Facebook.
