A woman found with severe injuries and close to death was allegedly kept locked away in an apartment by her parents for 27 years.<\/p>\n

Identified only as Mirella, the now 42-year-old was just 15 the last time neighbours report having seen her in her parents\u2019 care in 1997 in \u015awi\u0119toch\u0142owice, Poland.<\/p>\n

But late at night on July 29, police were called to her parents\u2019 apartment after neighbours reported noise coming from inside the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt all started with voices coming from that apartment. It was very late at night when we called the police,\u201d neighbour Luiza told local news outlet Fakt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Locals were shocked when Mirella emerged from the flat in a critical condition with leg wounds so severe they reached her bone. She was taken to hospital by an ambulance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were shocked when the police and paramedics took Mirella out of the apartment. She looked like an old lady, neglected, with wounds on her legs,\u201d Luiza said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember her from childhood. She was a normal, healthy child; we ran around the yard, climbing trees, and nothing ever happened to her. She was a healthy teenager.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lukasz Pach, director of emergency medical services in Katwice said when Mirella was transported to hospital she told paramedics she had not left the home in more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

Fakt reported that Mirella allegedly had no contact with the outside world for all those years and had never seen a doctor, dentist or hairdresser. She also had no ID card.<\/p>\n

Describing Mirella\u2019s story as terrifying, Fakt reported the woman had spent the 27 years confined to just one room and did not own any clothes of her own.<\/p>\n

Neighbours say that when Mirella disappeared in 1997 her parents told locals she was missing.<\/p>\n

They said when more investigative locals questioned why no one was looking for Mirella, her parents allegedly told them she had been sent back to live with her biological parents, meaning she was adopted.<\/p>\n

Now locals are wondering if legal action will be taken against her parents, who have not been identified.<\/p>\n

Police say they are awaiting further instruction from a social welfare centre before taking action.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter our intervention and transporting the woman to the hospital, the district police officer contacted the Social Welfare Centre. We are awaiting feedback from the Social Welfare Centre regarding this woman\u2019s situation in order to take further action,\u201d Anna Hryniak, from \u015awi\u0119toch\u0142owice police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis person was not listed in our database as missing or wanted. I can confirm that only in recent days, after an intervention, was this person issued an ID card. She did not have such a document before,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Fakt contacted the social welfare centre for comment but is yet to receive a response.<\/p>\n

A fundraising page has been set up for Mirella on Polish website pomagam.pl.<\/a><\/p>\n

Some contributors offered her words of support.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay you experience happiness in the small things you see, which will bring you joy, and you will finally get back on your feet. May the world be light and supportive to you. You did nothing to deserve such treatment,\u201d one contributor wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t contribute much, but every little bit counts.
