Ben Stiller<\/a> gets extremely honest about his own shortcomings in a new documentary he produced about his parents, the late Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. <\/p>\n

In the forthcoming doc, \u201cStiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost,\u201d the \u201cSeverance\u201d director speaks to his daughter, 23-year-old Ella, about a project they worked on when she was young \u2015 and why it led to one of his most profound mistakes. <\/p>\n

\u201cI cut you out of \u2018Secret Life of Walter Mitty,\u2019\u201d Ben Stiller says in conversation with Ella Stiller, referencing a 2013 movie he directed and acted in. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s probably the worst decision I ever made in my life,\u201d the actor admitted, via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Ella Stiller was much more forgiving than her father and told him that her scene \u201cdidn\u2019t make sense in the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Ben Stiller said the mistake embodied a bigger fault he sees in himself. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it kind of goes deeper. What it relates to is my own issues with my own obsession with my work, or \u2018perfectionism,\u2019\u201d Ben Stiller said. <\/p>\n

He got even more candid in an interview with The Sunday Times<\/a>, in which the actor said he \u201cprobably fucked up more with my kids than my parents did with us.\u201d <\/p>\n

He added: \u201cMy son tells me that being a dad might not have been at the top of my list.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cLike any parent, I remember things that weren\u2019t happy about my childhood and go, \u2018I\u2019ll do better,\u2019\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cAnd then I realized it was impossible to avoid making the mistakes they made. I feel like I have a really great relationship with my kids, but it\u2019s complicated and has at times been strained.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they were young, I did not get it.
