{"id":214772,"date":"2025-10-15T08:25:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/214772\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T08:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:25:11","slug":"wnba-game-in-china-could-happen-very-soon-nba-boss-adam-silver-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/214772\/","title":{"rendered":"WNBA game in China could happen \u2018very soon\u2019, NBA boss Adam Silver says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">NBA commissioner Adam Silver said a WNBA game in China is likely to happen \u201cvery soon,\u201d but the league must first address the expiring collective bargaining agreement.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Talking with CNBC during the first of two NBA pre-season games in Macau over the weekend, Silver was asked when a WNBA game in the country might take place.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe have to get through a new collective bargaining agreement with our players,\u201d Silver said. \u201cBut once we do, there\u2019s so much interest in women\u2019s basketball here, I think we\u2019d love to bring a WNBA game to Macau or to mainland China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The WNBA has held pre-season games in countries including Mexico and the United Kingdom, and the league staged its first regular-season game outside the United States when the Seattle Storm faced the Atlanta Dream in Vancouver on August 15.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">While the WNBA has yet to play an official game in Asia, the NBA announced a multi-year partnership with the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) that includes the country\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s national teams receiving opportunities to train and compete in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Fans hold up their phones during a break in play at The Venetian Arena.
