Dozens of heavily-armed police have surrounded WA\u2019s court precinct ahead of the first day of trial for the man accused of masterminding the assassination of bikie boss Nick Martin five years ago.<\/p>\n

Gang crime squad officers stood guard and the police helicopter circled from above on Wednesday morning, as David James Pye prepared to stand trial in the Supreme Court over the hit at the Perth Motorplex in December 2020.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old one-time Comanchero bikie is accused of paying a sniper, whose identity is a heavily-guarded secret, for Martin to be executed in front of shocked bystanders.<\/p>\n

Once the job was done, he is alleged to have offered another $800,000 to have fellow Comanchero in exile Ray Cilli offed as well.<\/p>\n

Pye has been held in protective custody for years at an undisclosed prison location for his own safety while awaiting his day in court.<\/p>\n
