AFL Tasmania is deeply saddened by the passing of Kevin \u2018Doola\u2019 King, Inductee #280 in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
Renowned as one of the great rovers of his era in the late 1960s and early 1970s, he won premierships at either end of the state and inspired teammates with his fearless nature.<\/p>\n
King enjoyed his first taste of senior football with Wynyard in 1965, and two years later he helped lead them to the NWFU flag. He also played a key role in the infamous \u2018no game\u2019 state final that year, where he was one of Wynyard\u2019s best before fans stole the goalposts in the dying moments.<\/p>\n
In 1969 he moved south to Clarence, where he continued to build his reputation as one of the state\u2019s finest players. He would claim four club best and fairest awards in a seven-year span, and he led the Roos to their first premiership in 1970; for his efforts, he was later named as rover in Clarence\u2019s official \u2018Best Team: 1947-2001\u2019.<\/p>\n
He would return to the north west coast in 1976, this time joining Penguin and helping to kick off a golden era for the club. He played a key role in their 1977 premiership, kicking two goals in the grand final, and while he finished his playing career two years later, that triumph sent them on a run of three flags in nine years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A supremely talented player, King\u2019s big reputation was matched by his playmaking deeds at an individual and team level in Tasmania. He made his teammates walk taller with his courage and attack on the football, taking plenty of hits but always bouncing back.<\/p>\n
