{"id":216559,"date":"2025-10-16T01:04:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T01:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/216559\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T01:04:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T01:04:07","slug":"kings-agree-to-reported-1-year-deal-with-westbrook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/216559\/","title":{"rendered":"Kings agree to reported 1-year deal with Westbrook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sacramento Kings agreed to a deal with Russell Westbrook, the guard&#8217;s agent told <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/1978493612875771982\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN&#8217;s Shams Charania<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star and former MVP, will officially sign the one-year, veteran&#8217;s minimum deal Thursday, a source told <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/James_HamNBA\/status\/1978504733003305381\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN 1320&#8217;s James Ham<\/a>. Once finalized, the California native will join his seventh franchise ahead of his 18th NBA season.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Denver Nuggets, averaging 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds while starting in 36 of 75 appearances.<\/p>\n<p>Westbrook had long been linked to Sacramento, which didn&#8217;t have another veteran point guard on the roster behind fellow offseason addition Dennis Schroder. They&#8217;ll be teammates for the third time; they were both on the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2018-19 season before briefly reuniting on the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022-23. Westbrook was traded to (and subsequently bought out by) the Utah Jazz after 52 games with the Lakers.<\/p>\n<p>The UCLA product also played with Kings center Domantas Sabonis on the Thunder during the Lithuanian&#8217;s rookie season in 2016-17.
