Dave Hughes has explained why he needed to return to the hospital<\/a> just weeks after breaking five ribs and puncturing a lung.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old comedian initially injured himself in an AFL charity match six weeks ago, however, he ended up back in the hospital this week and posted a photo from his bed on Monday.<\/p>\n

He told KISS radio hosts Will & Woody<\/a> that he had just been released today, and went on to explain how he wound up back in a hospital gown.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just to get likes on my Instagram, even though it is really good for my Instagram,” he joked.<\/p>\n

“I had a heart scan because my doctor was worried about my heart, and then my heart was perfect.<\/p>\n

“The person doing the scan said, ‘Your right lung has just got heaps of fluid’. And I’m like, ‘Well, that’s cool. It’s good to keep hydrated guys’. But, apparently, it’s not.<\/p>\n

“They had to suck it out. I thought it was only going to be a day procedure, but then they said, ‘You’ve got to stay,'”<\/p>\n

“I had a hose in my lung to get the fluid out. It was meant to stay overnight, but it fell out, and there were no doctors around to put it back.<\/p>\n

“I asked, ‘Can I just put it back in’? And they said no. So, I had to stay two days, which was annoying.”<\/p>\n

He joked that people were commenting, “RIP \ufeffHughsey,” adding, “They killed me off! I’m not dead people!”<\/p>\n

The comedian was playing in the AFL Legends Match for Prostate Cancer at Marvel Stadium when he was injured mid-play, later going to hospital and finding out he had five broken ribs and a potentially deadly punctured lung.<\/p>\n

The comic didn’t know how bad his injury was at first.<\/p>\n

“I looked like I was at death’s door but some people thought I was bunging it on, and so I didn’t go to hospital on the night (of the incident),” he told Will and Woody the first time he was hospitalised.<\/p>\n

The next morning, his constant groaning led to his wife Lisa taking him to a Melbourne hospital at 5am, where they did an X-ray and figured out what his condition was.<\/p>\n

He was posting from hospital the whole time, giving health updates on his condition, and even naming the player he thought was responsible for his condition. \ufeff<\/p>\n
