{"id":217643,"date":"2025-10-16T11:48:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/217643\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T11:48:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:48:07","slug":"a-long-standing-marc-marquez-record-could-be-beaten-in-australian-motogp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/217643\/","title":{"rendered":"A long-standing Marc Marquez record could be beaten in Australian MotoGP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A win record dating back to Marc Marquez\u2019s rookie MotoGP season could finally be beaten this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix by Gresini\u2019s Fermin Aldeguer.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old rookie scored his first premier class grand prix win last time out at the Indonesian Grand Prix, after dominating a chaotic race on his Gresini-run Ducati GP24.<\/p>\n<p>It made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1043650\/fermin-aldeguer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fermin Aldeguer<\/a> the first rookie to win in MotoGP since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/973236\/jorge-martin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jorge Martin<\/a> in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Spaniard now returns to a strong venue in Phillip Island, where he qualified on pole in Moto2 for the last three years and won at last season.<\/p>\n<p>If he manages to win the Australian Grand Prix, he could become the first rookie since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1654\/marc-marquez\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marc Marquez<\/a> in 2013 to win twice in their first year, as well as the first since the seven-time champion to do so back-to-back.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pressure for sure,\u201d Aldeguer said of this prospect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope, but I have clear my goals. For sure, I come here with extra motivation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won the last race and Phillip Island is my best track. It\u2019s my favourite track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere I did three poles in a row. My last victory before Indonesia [came here].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI come here with a good mentality, but with calm because it\u2019s a different track with a MotoGP bike.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor sure, the win and the cold is very different to Indonesia. We have to be careful and try to go step by step.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal for the rest of the season is to improve Fridays, and this is my first goal for this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aldeguer can also secure the rookie of the year prize for 2025 this weekend in Australia if he extends his 111-point advantage over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/racer\/1043649\/ai-ogura\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ai Ogura<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Though this was \u201cone of my goals\u201d at the beginning of the year, Aldeguer admits his victory at Mandalika has given him a taste for bigger things in the final four rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the start of the season it was one of my goals, to be rookie of the year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t start in the best way. For sure, Ogura started better than me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we recovered all the points. Unfortunately he had some injuries, [Somkiat] Chantra also.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now we are leading. Maybe here we can close this lead in the championship.
