Bluey fever hit WA on Thursday with more than 100 people lining up outside Perth Mint waiting to get their hands on limited edition collector coins \u2014 Bluey Christmas Dollarbucks.<\/p>\n
Some Bluey fans and coin collectors even camped overnight to get first dibs on the rare silver coin \u2014 on sale for $100 \u2014 before doors opened at the stroke of 9am.<\/p>\n
Decked out in full Bluey attire, grandmother Georgie, said she held down third spot in the queue since 3.30pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a little bit tired, but I\u2019m good . . . I haven\u2019t closed my eyes at all. It\u2019s a really good group of people here that are really knowledgeable, learning about coins,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe silver coin will be a Christmas present for my future son-in-law. He lives in England, he got (coins) last year for Christmas as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nathan McNally and Priscilla Kelly arrived at the mint\u2019s front gates at 9pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe didn\u2019t know how many (people) would be here, and the mint said last time, people were there (all up the street),\u201d Mr McNally said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the gold and the silver coin, there\u2019s only a certain amount of coins you can get. We are just coin collectors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Kelly said her grandson loved Bluey and was excited to show him the silver coin \u2014 which comes in a Christmas-themed bauble.<\/p>\n
Perth Mint CEO Paul Graham said the coins were released by the Royal Australian Mint, with a limited supply available for purchase across Australia through recognised distributors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s two types . . . they\u2019re both a Christmas design, one with a bauble and one with very bright colours,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI personally don\u2019t collect Bluey, but I certainly know a lot of people that do. I fully appreciate the excitement, and I love seeing it. It just really brings the community together, when things aren\u2019t always easy.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople want them \u2014 the demand is significantly outstripping supply.\u201d<\/p>\n
