Late-night hosts recapped the many vile leaked messages<\/a> from a Young Republicans group chat and Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s ongoing Fox News-fueled delusions.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine, but one day this avalanche of insanity we get buried under, each day deeper and deeper than the next, will one day be taught in history books in every place other than Florida,\u201d said Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> on Wednesday evening. \u201cWhat a stupid time to be alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

To wit, Kimmel cited a Daily Beast report that Trump\u2019s inner circle has become \u201calarmed\u201d by the impact of Fox News on his decision-making. \u201cTrump officials became concerned when Trump asked if he could get a reverse mortgage on the White House and one of those Terry Bradshaw walk-in tubs,\u201d Kimmel joked.<\/p>\n

The report noted that Trump probably sent the national guard to Portland, Oregon, based on footage he saw on Fox News of the Black Lives Matter protests from summer 2020, mistaking them for current unrest. \u201cHe still might think that\u2019s happening in real time,\u201d said Kimmel. \u201cHe\u2019s on a five-year delay from the rest of us.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump\u2019s inner circle knows just how dangerous the incessant misinformation from Fox News can be, because they all worked there 10 months ago,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt is frightening to know that the president of the United States is being briefed on world events by the same source as everyone at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport Chili\u2019s To-Go.\u201d<\/p>\n

But \u201cone thing you can say about Donald Trump though: he has a vivid imagination,\u201d he said. \u201cHe has created a dangerous organization to get the old people excited and fired up, a supervillain called antifa. And the reason we know that antifa is organized against the government is because their matching signs indicate that they are somehow in league with Kinko\u2019s, or something.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Fox News, Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, falsely claimed \u201cthousands\u201d of protesters had signs that were \u201cpre-bought, pre-put together \u2013 they\u2019re organized, and someone is funding them\u201d. She also threatened: \u201cWe\u2019re going to get to the funding of antifa, we\u2019re going to get to root of antifa, and we are going to find and charge all of those people who are causing this chaos in Portland and all these other cities across our country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if we can\u2019t find them, we\u2019re going to pretend that we did,\u201d Kimmel added.<\/p>\n

Kimmel made one thing clear: \u201cThere\u2019s no chaos in Portland. None. There\u2019s no chaos in Chicago. There was no chaos in Los Angeles. They\u2019re pretending there\u2019s chaos as pretense for a military takeover.\u201d And he once again asked for viewers to submit videos of non-chaos in these cities under the hashtag #showmeyourhellhole \u2013 \u201cand maybe you too can help educate our president on what is happening in the country that he runs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

Nine months into the second Trump presidency, \u201cit feels like we\u2019re about to give birth to an unvaccinated porcupine,\u201d Stephen Colbert<\/a> joked on the Late Show. \u201cEvery day, he finds disturbing new ways to undermine our norms.\u201d<\/p>\n

And on Wednesday, the Republican National Committee chair, Joe Gruters, revealed that Trump prefers to combine his McDonald\u2019s hamburger and filet-o-fish entrees. \u201cI can\u2019t help but feel for everyone who has to fly with the president,\u201d said Colbert. \u201cImagine being stuck on a 12-hour flight with an old man hot-boxing you with filet-o-farts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the light part of tonight\u2019s monologue,\u201d he added. Because this week, Politico published a report<\/a> based on thousands of private messages between leaders of the Young Republicans organization full of offensive rhetoric. \u201cOK, look, I know politics can be rough and tumble, but how offensive could these texts be?\u201d said Colbert. \u201cIt\u2019s not like they wrote \u2018I like Hitler.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, someone did write \u201cI love Hitler.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a tough one to spin,\u201d Colbert joked, mocking the chat \u2013 \u201cWhat? I was talking about Pete Hitler and his honky tonk bluegrass band. You\u2019re telling me there\u2019s another Hitler?\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2,900 pages worth of texts, the Young Republicans sent each other an array of slurs, joked about enslavement and made disparaging comments about Jewish people, women, Black people and other minorities. One also texted: \u201cIf we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked fr fr [for real].\u201d<\/p>\n

JD Vance, naturally, downplayed the language, dismissing the report as \u201ckids do stupid things, especially young boys\u201d.<\/p>\n
