{"id":218317,"date":"2025-10-16T18:17:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T18:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/218317\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T18:17:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T18:17:08","slug":"mlb-players-inc-and-the-realest-create-pop-up-shop-in-tokyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/218317\/","title":{"rendered":"MLB Players Inc. and The Realest create pop-up shop in Tokyo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">The business arm of the MLB players\u2019 union is making its first foray into Japan with a pop-up shop in Tokyo featuring limited edition merchandise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">The pop-up shop, via MLB Players, Inc. and next-generation authenticator The Realest, will be featured Thursday-Monday in the Shibuya section of Tokyo, featuring player-licensed collectibles and artwork curated by Saya Nomura of Japan\u2019s Nomura baseball family. Vinyl records, jerseys and other merch will only be available in-store. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">Evan Kaplan, President of MLB Players, Inc., said the pop-up won\u2019t be profitable this time around, but the goal is to test the waters, with an eye on creating something much bigger in the baseball-adoring country. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to create and determine what works and what doesn\u2019t, but we do have big plans for it. Because if it goes as well as we hope, we expect to make a big splash early next year,\u201d Kaplan told SBJ. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">Kaplan\u2019s business interest in Japan was piqued during the MLB Tokyo Series between the Dodgers and Cubs to kick of the 2025 season. Fanatics said it sold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/20\/fanatics-hits-40m-in-sales-off-mlb-tokyo-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/20\/fanatics-hits-40m-in-sales-off-mlb-tokyo-series\/\">$40M worth of fan merchandise and trading cards<\/a> during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/14\/fanatics-mlb-open-retail-outlet-at-tokyo-dome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/03\/14\/fanatics-mlb-open-retail-outlet-at-tokyo-dome\/\">two-day event<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">\u201cI started talking to people because I didn\u2019t know much about the retail infrastructure in Japan,\u201d Kaplan said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-labor-and-agents \">One of those people was Scott Keeney (aka DJ Skee), founder of The Realest. The two met at Keeney\u2019s Los Angeles office in June.
