\n\tPedro Pascal<\/a> is the Marvel Cinematic Universe\u2019s Reed Richards\/Mister Fantastic, but he is not the new leader of the Avengers. At least that\u2019s what the actor says\u2026 for now.<\/p>\n

\n\tAn interview \u201cFantastic Four<\/a>: First Steps\u201d director Matt Shakman gave to Variety <\/a>earlier this month went viral for seemingly revealing that Pascal\u2019s superhero would be going on to lead the Avengers. It wasn\u2019t a far-fetched possibility for fans, as Pascal and his \u201cFantastic Four\u201d co-stars Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are all returning for next year\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Doomsday<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to Shakman, Reed was the hardest role to cast in \u201cFantastic Four\u201d because \u201che goes from being the nerdy scientist who\u2019s locked away in the lab, to the husband and the father who\u2019d do anything to protect his family, to the guy who\u2019s leading the Avengers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI realized that the version we were building had to have all of those elements,\u201d Shakman said.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut Shakman\u2019s comment was a bit of a mislead, according to Pascal. Speaking to the Associated Press, the \u201cLast of Us\u201d and \u201cMandalorian\u201d favorite downplayed that leading the Avengers is the arc for his version of Reed Richards.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s big news to me, that\u2019s for one,\u201d Pascal said. \u201cI think Matt Shakman was doing an interview and when he was speaking about Reed\u2026 there is something that happens in the comics where he is sort of drawn in by the Avengers family and asked to be put into a leadership position. That is something that happens in the comics. It isn\u2019t necessarily something that my character\u2019s future entails.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPascal then stressed, \u201cI am being honest in that. I am not even trying to avoid spoilers. It\u2019s a little bit of a mislead.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShakman and Pascal have known each other for years and had the same talent manager at the beginning of their careers. Pascal told Variety <\/a>that \u201ccoming together for \u2018Fantastic Four\u2019 felt absolutely fated in the stars.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNone of the four actors who play the Fantastic Four had traditional auditions for the movie. Instead, they were all cast after a meeting with Shakman. There were no chemistry tests either, although the group did have three weeks of rehearsals before filming started.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe approached the story dramaturgically as you would a play, before we got on our feet with anything,\u201d Pascal said. \u201cIt was Matt setting up the circumstances to be together as a cast and flesh out a language that bonded each of us together as a family.\u201d<\/p>\n
