{"id":219051,"date":"2025-10-17T01:15:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T01:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/219051\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T01:15:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T01:15:16","slug":"two-australians-qualify-for-final-of-esports-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/219051\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Australians qualify for final of Esports World Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Australians will be able to cheer for both of their national champions when the world titles for cycling esports are decided next month.<\/p>\n<p>Matilda &#8216;Tilly&#8217; Field (You Yangs Mountain Bike) and Josh Harris (Launceston City Cycling Club) have qualified for the final of the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll be the second time the World Championships have been contested with an in-person final, and the first time the ARA Australian Cycling Team will be represented in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/australiancyclingteam.com\/news\/esports-worlds-team-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ten riders for the Australian team<\/a> raced the semi-finals earlier this month remotely on MyWhoosh, vying to be one of the top 20 men and women who would progress to the live final.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ARA Australian Cycling Team athlete Josh Harris during the 2024 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on MyWhoosh. (Photo: MyWhoosh)<\/p>\n<p>Tasmania\u2019s Josh Harris placed ninth in the men\u2019s event to book his ticket for the second consecutive year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking the final again has been the motivation behind all of my training in the last six months,\u201d Harris said. \u201cThe level only keeps increasing, so to put myself in the top 10 in the semi-finals again was a little bit of a surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s semi-final, Field had to dig deep to secure the last remaining spot. The Victorian entered the last points race well down the leaderboard, needing to score strongly across each of the eight sprints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith nothing left to lose, and one chance left\u2014I locked in,\u201d Field said. \u201cLap after lap I was scoring points, jumping up positions, but still not convinced it would be enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I crossed that final sprint and Carlee [Taylor], our DS, said \u2018Tilly you did it \u2013 you\u2019re 20th,\u2019\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t believe it. (Photo: supplied)<\/p>\n<p>Field and Harris will travel to the United Arab Emirates to contest the live final on November 15.
