He joins a powerful Adelaide forward line, which will welcome Taylor Walker back for a 19th AFL season in 2026. Adelaide\u2019s injury list was kept incredibly slim this year, so their best available team doesn\u2019t stray far away from their semi-final 23 against Hawthorn at all. Only Izak Rankine (suspended) at this stage is expected to miss Round 1, while dashing defender Brodie Smith announced his retirement alongside ball-winner Matt Crouch. Ah Chee\u2019s arrival could force young forward Zac Taylor out of Matthew Nicks\u2019 starting side, while Jordan Butts will be hoping he can force his way back in after a collapsed lung in the second half of 2025 halted his momentum in the senior side. A second full pre-season under the belt of Sid Draper could see him surge back into contention, perhaps at the expense of Sam Berry. The likes of Billy Dowling and Brayden Cook are other young players who will be around the mark. WE SAY: A lot of change at Ikon Park to make for a new-look side in 2026. After a busy trade period, we have four of those five recruits \u2013 Will Hayward, Ollie Florent, Ben Ainsworth and Liam Reidy \u2013 in their starting side. Fellow addition Campbell Chesser could easily be there too. Hard to say whether Reidy or Marc Pittonet will get first crack as No. 1 ruck and it could well be a shared job with five-man benches. Though not a new player per se, perhaps the most welcome fresh face is former No. 3 pick Jagga Smith, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury. Similarly, Nic Newman returns from a knee injury that wiped out his 2025. Already you see a more dynamic side with greater outside run and a versatile forward line. The departure of Jack Silvagni, a knee injury to Harry O\u2019Farrell and uncertainty around Mitch McGovern\u2019s future means the Blues don\u2019t quite have an ideal second tall, with Nick Haynes and Lewis Young more suited to being interceptors\/third talls. Father-son draftee Harry Dean could be in contention for one of those defensive roles but will likely need time to develop in the twos. So much is riding on getting all their soldiers on the park, unlike a crippled 2025 campaign. They’ll welcome healthier seasons from the likes of Jye Caldwell, Kyle Langford, Darcy Parish, Ben McKay, Jordan Ridley, Zach Reid, Nik Cox and Harrison Jones. But unfortunately Nic Martin is likely to miss a key portion of 2026 after a brutal ACL blow in July. \ufeffThere\u2019s still some uncertainty around the ruck situation after Sam Draper\u2019s departure, with Nick Bryan expected to miss the start of next season while he rehabs his own ACL issue. WE SAY: The Saints\u2019 trade haul is a sign of changing times at Moorabbin, with plenty of changes to their best team from the end of this season. Tom De Koning assumes the number-one ruck role in a pairing with Rowan Marshall, who figures to play more time forward to straighten up Ross Lyon\u2019s forward line along with the returning Max King. And with Jack Silvagni bolstering the defence alongside likely new skipper Cal Wilkie, Anthony Caminiti and Cooper Sharman get squeezed out. Sam Flanders should straight into the midfield, which could go in a number of different directions. You sense Flanders and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera are the only on-ball locks, with Marcus Windhager, Mattes Phillipou, Hugo Garcia, Hugh Boxshall and Jack Macrae other options. Plenty of depth, with the likes of Dan Butler and Hunter Clark outside senior calculations. <\/p>\n

WE SAY: A handy name slots straight in at full forward. Marquee trade addition Charlie Curnow will spearhead Dean Cox\u2019s new-look attack in Sydney\u2019s most talented forward since Buddy Franklin. It\u2019ll be fascinating what the addition of Curnow does to the Swans\u2019 other key talls, with the potential for one to swing back. We left fellow recruit Jai Serong out, but he could easily feature in that defence. As important as anything, Sydney looks set to go into 2026 with a clean bill of after its 2025 season was cruelled by injuries, with Errol Gulden, Callum Mills and Logan McDonald among those to miss considerable time. Cox will have more optionality that ever before in his second season. But that star-studded midfield led by Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner and Gulden is set in stone. Looks like a side capable of going deep.<\/p>\n

WE SAY: The number of injuries at West Coast to finish last season make it a tricky task to work out which of their young guns get preference come Round 1 next year. That\u2019s before evening making mention the half a dozen departures from the club, although admittedly only some played more than a few matches in 2025. The inclusion of Brandon Starcevich and Tylar Young now make the Eagles defence more solid \u2014 despite Jeremy McGovern\u2019s retirement. After an interrupted first season at Lathlain, Bo Allan will be hopeful of a strong pre-season under his belt that will catapult him back into the best 23. Potential first two overall draft picks, Willem Duursma and Cooper Duff-Tyler, could well could well slot straight into Andrew McQualter\u2019s side too. Players perhaps on the fringe (but could also very well be named Round 1) include premiership Eagle Tom Cole, Archer Reid, Tom Gross, Jack Williams and Harry Edwards. Delisted Lion Deven Robertson is also all but certain to land at the Eagles as a delisted free agent and would seem likely to play Round 1.<\/p>\n

Instead the Dogs came away with small backman Connor Budarick. It means Luke Beveridge\u2019s side figures to go into the new season with Rory Lobb, James O\u2019Donnell and possibly Jedd Busslinger as its main key backs, with Buku Khamis retained as depth after a trade with Carlton fell through. Jordan Croft flashed promise right at the end of the year and should be in a spot to take a sizeable step next year, with Jamarra Ugle-Hagan officially departing the club. Croft could even be used in defence.
