New York could not do it again, however, and found itself on the losing end when Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews<\/a> scored the winner 58 seconds into overtime.<\/p>\n

Sure, the Rangers managed to get a point from the game, but the lack of offense remained a point of contention.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easy to get frustrated and get off the rails, but there\u2019s 82 of these things and we\u2019ve only played six,\u201d captain J.T. Miller<\/a> said. \u201cSo, that\u2019s why I don\u2019t want to keep blowing things out of proportion.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would be easy to do just that, even at this early stage, when you consider how some of New York\u2019s big guns are struggling.<\/p>\n

Miller, who scored 22 goals last season, has one. So does Mika Zibanejad<\/a>, who had 20 in 2024-25. Artemi Panarin<\/a>, who led the Rangers in goals last season with 37, has yet to score.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re mentally weak, you are going to go off the rails because this isn\u2019t working on paper,\u201d Miller said. \u201cBut to me, it\u2019s about getting looks, not if they\u2019re going in. Over time, if you get the looks, they\u2019re going to go in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easy to go the other way right now, and that\u2019s why we\u2019re going to be mentally tough in here. We\u2019re going to keep pounding pucks at the net and outplaying the teams we\u2019re playing against, and it\u2019s going to work eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n

That the Rangers have allowed nine goals in six games and have just five points to show from it is an indictment of their sputtering offense, a trend Sullivan hopes is on the verge of ending.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe these guys are going to score,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
