Arizona State posted a 286 (+2) in the first round, placing them in a tie for fifth alongside Colorado in the 19-team field. Stanford holds the early lead after an impressive start, followed by Oregon, Arizona, and UCLA rounding out the top five teams after day one.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State was led by consistent play across the lineup, with <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/roster\/player\/patience-rhodes\" title=\"Patience Rhodes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patience Rhodes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/roster\/player\/paula-schulz-hanssen\" title=\"Paula Schulz-Hanssen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paula Schulz-Hanssen<\/a> each carding rounds of 71 (E). The Par 71, 6,278-yard course has hosted several significant events, including the Stanford Invitational, Peg Barnard Intercollegiate, Pac-10\/12 Championships, NCAA Western Regional, and the Women\u2019s NCAA Championships, USGA Junior Amateur Qualifying, and U.S. Open Qualifying. The tournament is hosted by former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, an avid golfer and Stanford Graduate School of Business faculty member.<\/p>\n<p>History at Stanford Intercollegiate<br \/>The Sun Devils will be making their 13th appearance at the Stanford Intercollegiate, first competing at the event in 1980. This is the ninth time in the last ten editions that Arizona State will be a part of the field. ASU has enjoyed its fair share of success at Stanford, winning the team title six times, most recently in 2019. Arizona State (-10\/842) earned its ninth title in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/staff\/missy-farr-kaye\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Missy Farr-Kaye<\/a> era, putting together its eighth-lowest score vs. par over 54 holes in school history.<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Devils also won in 2009, 2007, 2004, 1995, and 1982. A pair of Sun Devil legends earned individual titles: Heather Bowie took home the individual crown in 1995, while Brandie Burton was the champion of the 1989 event.<\/p>\n<p>2025-26 Arizona State Women&#8217;s Golf schedule<br \/>Arizona State will be tested throughout the <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/schedule\/season\/2025-26\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025-26 campaign<\/a> as Coach Farr-Kaye again built one of the nation\u2019s toughest slates. The Maroon and Gold will compete in ten regular-season events, five in the fall and five in the spring. Arizona State won its NCAA-leading eighth national championship in 2017 to reinforce its standing as the premier women\u2019s golf school in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Under legendary Head Coach Linda Vollstedt, the program became the first women\u2019s collegiate golf program to win six championships in a decade (1990, \u201993, \u201994, \u201995, \u201997 and &#8217;98). ASU remains the lone program to capture three national titles (1993, \u201994, &#8217;95).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Sun Devil Golf programs also did something in 1990 that had never been done before, and hasn\u2019t been accomplished since. The men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams won national titles in 1990, becoming the first school to capture both championships in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Bird&#8221;<br \/>The Thunderbirds Golf Complex, designed by Douglas Fredrickson Architects and built by Rummel Construction Inc., is a 7,000-square-foot facility featuring a grand entry lobby, national championship displays, a team gym and locker rooms for both men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams, a fueling station, study lounge, team lounge, indoor hitting bays and more.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Sun Devil alumnus and five-time PGA Major Championships winner Phil Mickelson, who is known for his short-game expertise, the four-acre practice area consists of five practice greens, four practice bunkers and a three-acre fairway and rough designed to practice every possible golf shot.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 1, 2018, Papago Golf Course became the new home for Sun Devil Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Golf by unveiling their new state-of-the-art practice facility \u2014 The Thunderbirds Golf Complex \u2014 through the generous commitment by The Thunderbirds organization. Arizona State, in partnership with The Thunderbirds, Arizona Golf Community Foundation, the city of Phoenix and Phil Mickelson Design, revitalized the course and helped build the Lou Grubb Clubhouse and Lou\u2019s Bar and Grill.<\/p>\n<p>Fantastic four<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/roster\/player\/patience-rhodes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Patience Rhodes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/roster\/player\/isla-mcdonald-obrien\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isla McDonald-O\u2019Brien<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/sports\/womens-golf\/roster\/player\/paula-schulz-hanssen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paula Schulz-Hanssen<\/a>, and Beth Colter all return having gained another year of valuable experience.
