{"id":222184,"date":"2025-10-18T07:31:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T07:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/222184\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T07:31:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T07:31:08","slug":"osaka-onslaught-as-test-stars-shine-in-australia-a-thumping-of-japan-xv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/222184\/","title":{"rendered":"Osaka onslaught as Test stars shine in Australia A thumping of Japan XV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Australia A have blown Japan XV off the park with a 71-7 demolition in Osaka.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Japan coach Eddie Jones watched on as Simon Cron&#8217;s men dominated all aspects for the majority of the 80 minutes, with former Wallabies assistant Neal Hatley taking charge of Japan XV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stan.com.au\/watch\/sport\/rugby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"css-tm001h\">Watch Australia A take on Japan XV this Saturday live and on-demand via Stan Sport.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">&#8220;Our boys took it really seriously when they put on that gold jersey\u00a0representing their country, and I felt like they did a really great job over the last week in their preparation and you can see  how professional they are on the field,&#8221; Cron said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">With nine capped Wallabies in the side, several Test hopefuls took their chance to make a statement, none more than lock Darcy Swain and flyhalf Ben Donaldson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Swain bulldozed the Japanese, scoring two of the first three tries as the visitors piled on the points early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">The Western Force lock also stole two lineouts close to the line, with Australia A particularly lethal at set-piece to create and maintain dominance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">This was evident in the 16th minute when fullback Mac Grealy created a break from inside their 22 for Teddy Wilson, Wilson finding Josh Canham, as the second-rower linked up with his lock partner Swain for his second.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Grealy was superb at the back, scoring four minutes earlier as he broke clear of the defence and kept his body in to score in the corner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Flyhalf Donaldson was in command, setting up several tries as winger Tim Ryan got in on the action with a great one-two effort alongside Joey Walton for a well-worked try.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Fullback Yoshitaka Yazaki delights the home crowd with a stellar run to get Japan XV on the board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">But it was all Australia A heading into half-time, taking a 33-7 lead into the sheds thanks to a try to Teddy Wilson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">They didn\u2019t let off after the break thanks to Luke Reimer, with captain Matt Faessler crossing for a well deserved try after several massive carries to set up try-scoring opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Japan XV were left all at sea, with Yazaki sitting down for ten for a professional foul before Faessler\u2019s try.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Prop Rhys van Nek brought up the half century as not even a red card to Ollie Sapsford for a high shot slowed them down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Replacement Ethan Dobbins delivered a filthy offload to set up Henry Robertson as the Aussies raced the clock following Ben Donaldson\u2019s break and offload for Lington Ieli\u2019s try.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Donaldson continued his late push for a Wallabies recall with a perfect ball out the break for Ryan&#8217;s second to cap off a near-perfect afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-2425b0\">Australia A 71 (Tries: Swain 2, Grealy, Ryan 2, Wilson, Reimer, Faessler, Scott, Robertson, Ieli; Cons: Donaldson 8\/11) def Japan XV 7 (Tries: Yazaki; Cons: Nakakusu 1\/1)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Australia A have blown Japan XV off the park with a 71-7 demolition in Osaka.
