{"id":223692,"date":"2025-10-18T22:03:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T22:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/223692\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T22:03:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T22:03:07","slug":"slipknot-sue-to-reclaim-slipknot-com-from-squatter-selling-fake-merch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/223692\/","title":{"rendered":"Slipknot Sue to Reclaim Slipknot.com From Squatter Selling Fake Merch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Citing the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, the band &#8211; forced to use Slipknot1.com for nearly 25 years &#8211; seeks to retake URL bearing their name<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/slipknot\/\" id=\"auto-tag_slipknot\" data-tag=\"slipknot\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Slipknot<\/a> have filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/lawsuit\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lawsuit\" data-tag=\"lawsuit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuit<\/a> against the anonymous owner of the Slipknot.com domain in an attempt to reclaim the website, which is currently used to sell counterfeit band merchandise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFor nearly 25 years, the anonymous cyber-squatter has sat on the Slipknot URL, forcing the actual Slipknot to instead make <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/Anti-Cybersquatting%20Consumer%20Protection%20Act\" target=\"_blank\">Slipknot1.com<\/a> their official website. While the two websites have co-existed since 2001, the fact that Slipknot.com has been routing wayward fans to links for \u201cCheap Promo Products\u201d and \u201cCostume Masks\u201d \u2014 knockoffs of the merch and masks the band actually sells \u2014 necessitated the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe band filed the lawsuit, <a href=\"https:\/\/domainnamewire.com\/wp-content\/slipknot.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obtained by Domain Name Wire<\/a>, into a Virginia federal court earlier this week under the Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.
