Gary Player is the latest golf voice to weigh in on the fan behaviour at the 2025 Ryder Cup, and the nine-time major champ didn\u2019t hold back.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the Palm Beach Post, Player said he agreed with Tom Watson, who was \u201cashamed\u201d by what went on at Bethpage Black during Europe\u2019s 15-13 win.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look at it and I\u2019m in a state of shock,\u201d Player told the Post. \u201cI think, what would Ben Hogan have said, you know? What would Byron Nelson have said? What would Arnold Palmer \u2026 If Arnold Palmer saw that today \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI was disgusted,\u201d Player added. \u201cSo to me, the Ryder Cup is in shambles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Player turns 90 on November 1. As a South African, Player was never eligible to participate in the Ryder Cup. However, he\u2019s been a Presidents Cup captain three times.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the fact that they say \u2018USA, USA.\u2019 I love (how) the British respond in their way. I think that\u2019s exciting,\u201d Player said of the biennial event between the US and Europe. \u201cBut the Ryder Cup to me is the worst event in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Player was also upset about comedian and podcaster Heather McMahan, who was hired by the PGA of America as a first-tee MC, but quit and issued an apology ahead of the Ryder Cup singles session after leading a vulgar chant directed at Rory McIlroy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to see a (PGA of America) hire a lady to stand on the tee\u2014if you want to call her a lady\u2014and saying \u2018F you, Rory. F this European team,’\u201d Player said. \u201cAre we crazy? And then the head of the (PGA of America) says, what was so serious about it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Player was referencing PGA of America president Don Rea, who was criticised for not doing more to condemn the crowd behaviour. But Player also didn\u2019t seem thrilled with some of the players responding to fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cGolf has never been that,\u201d said Player, who added he admired Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood for their class throughout. \u201cGolf has been a gentleman\u2019s sport. So, and to see that, and to see the players using this \u2018F\u2019 word, I mean, the whole lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
