{"id":22466,"date":"2025-07-26T01:28:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T01:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/22466\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T01:28:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T01:28:13","slug":"lando-norris-unconcerned-by-oscar-piastri-gap-in-f1-belgian-gp-sprint-qualifying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/22466\/","title":{"rendered":"Lando Norris unconcerned by Oscar Piastri gap in F1 Belgian GP Sprint Qualifying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lando Norris was \u201cnot too disappointed\u201d with qualifying third for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/belgium\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Belgian Grand Prix<\/a> Sprint Race, despite a six-tenth gap to team-mate Oscar Piastri.<\/p>\n<p>Norris was comprehensively outperformed by the Australian, whose blistering lap around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit saw him take pole, with Max Verstappen second.<\/p>\n<p>Piastri appeared to have the MCL39 hooked up well, with Norris\u2019 final lap perhaps being a tad untidy.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the session, Norris acknowledged the scruffiness of his final run, but did not think it would have made much difference to the overall outcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot quick enough, I guess, is the only thing,\u201d he said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t the cleanest of laps, but still quite a big gap to the top.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot too disappointed, third for the Sprint, so not a big story, but some things to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Lando-Norris-Belgian-GP-1024x576.webp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-217273\"  \/>Norris was unconcerned about the deficit, saying it\u2019s \u201cjust Friday\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether being told to speed up on his preparation lap caused too much wear to his tyres, Norris was unsure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just impossible to say,\u201d he said. \u201cMaybe it made my tyres better. You don\u2019t know those things, but we\u2019ll look at it overnight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In FP1, Norris was also third with Piastri first, with a similar gap between the two, indicating that the title-leader is possibly regaining momentum over his team-mate.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how he is preparing to take the fight to Piastri as the weekend goes on, Norris continued to seem nonplussed by Friday\u2019s gulf between the two men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a weekend with lots of elements to it, potentially.\u00a0It\u2019s just Friday, so I\u2019m not too fussed,\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot the happiest, of course. I\u2019d like to be a bit quicker than I was today, but it\u2019s the way it is.
