{"id":225750,"date":"2025-10-19T19:09:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T19:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/225750\/"},"modified":"2025-10-19T19:09:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T19:09:11","slug":"leylah-fernandez-makes-speech-after-winning-the-japan-open-and-has-prediction-to-share-about-her-opponent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/225750\/","title":{"rendered":"Leylah Fernandez makes speech after winning the Japan Open and has prediction to share about her opponent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>   <a class=\"fw\" href=\"https:\/\/profile.google.com\/cp\/Cg0vZy8xMXlnMTNoeXE4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/wp-content\/themes\/grv-media\/img\/google-discover.svg\" alt=\"\"\/> Follow us on Google Discover <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Leylah Fernandez has come through to win the Japan Women\u2019s Open in Osaka, beating Tereza Valentova. <\/p>\n<p>Fernandez, the player beaten by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Raducanu<\/a> in the 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, raced through the first set 6-0 before losing the second 7-5. <\/p>\n<p>The third set saw the Canadian player regain her composure, and she managed to claim it 6-3 to lift the title. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/leylah-fernandez\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fernandez<\/a> was the number four seed at this event and looks on course for victory all week, playing some brilliant tennis. <\/p>\n<p>After the win, she took some time out to praise her opponent and made a prediction about Valentova. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2241660780-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Leylah Fernandez on her way to winning in Osaka\" \/>Photo by PAUL MILLER\/AFP via Getty ImagesLeylah Fernandez makes prediction about Tereza Valentova<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after her win, Fernandez delivered a very classy speech on the court and had plenty to say about her opponent on the day. <\/p>\n<p>Fernandez has now won five career titles and the challenge for the Canadian as her career progresses will be to win some of the bigger titles on offer. <\/p>\n<p>After her victory, she said in her interview: \u201cCongratulations, Tereza. You played amazing. Wonderful week to you, your coach, and your family. I\u2019m sure I\u2019m gonna see you in many more finals like this one. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanna thank the fans for coming and supporting us this week. Not only myself, but every player who played this tournament.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout you, we wouldn\u2019t be here. Thank you so much for supporting us, motivating us, and bringing the good energy.\u201d \u201cFinally, I wanna thank my team. My dad who\u2019s over here who\u2019s also my coach, my hitting partner Federico.. thank you so much for suffering with me this week, this past month, and past year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also wanna thank my family and loved ones back home. Without you I wouldn\u2019t be here. Without everyone\u2019s sacrifices and support, I wouldn\u2019t be on this stage.
