The 3rd Battalion of the Australian Army’s 3rd Brigade is remembering the “proud and passionate soldier” killed in a Defence vehicle rollover in north Queensland<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

Lance Corporal Tulsa Rumney died when an M113 armoured personnel carrier rolled at a training area 60 kilometres west of Townsville on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Lance Corporal Rumney was involved in a commander’s training course when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n

Two of his male colleagues, aged in their 20s and 30s, were hospitalised with minor injuries and quickly discharged.<\/p>\n

After days of mourning, requested by family, friends and colleagues of Lance Corporal Rumney, his battalion \u2014 referred to as Old Faithful \u2014 issued a tribute on Saturday evening praising the fallen soldier’s character.<\/p>\n

“Tulsa was a character of Old Faithful, a quietly confident soldier,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

“[He] passionately and proudly served his nation for seven-and-a-half years.<\/p>\n

“He was a proud Australian, described by his mates as a proper Aussie bloke, and an avid Brisbane Broncos fan.”Forever missed<\/p>\n

Lance Corporal Rumney had distinguished service, participating in the Defence Force’s partnerships with the Papua New Guinea defence force and training Ukrainian troops during his career.<\/p>\n

“He will be remembered as a soldier who always put service before self,” the 3rd Battalion statement said.<\/p>\n

“He will be forever missed by all of us in Old Faithful.”<\/p>\n

Heartfelt interest<\/p>\n

The cause of the rollover remains unclear, with state and federal authorities investigating the incident.<\/p>\n

Defence Minister Richard Marles confirmed in the wake of the crash that the M113 carriers would not be used while the investigations were ongoing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The platforms are due to be replaced with new Korean-made vehicles in the years ahead.<\/p>\n

The 3rd Battalion said it was important the investigation be able to run its course.<\/p>\n

“As investigations are underway, we will not be commenting further on Tulsa’s death,” the battalion’s statement said.<\/p>\n

“We understand there is heartfelt interest in Tulsa’s passing.<\/p>\n
