HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Arkansas – – Led by a career-low round of -4 (68) from senior Sarah Gallagher<\/a>, the Ball State women’s golf team opened play in the Diamante Intercollegiate with the lowest team round in program history Sunday afternoon.

\nThrow in career-low rounds of -2 (70) from senior Sabrina Langerak<\/a> and junior Jenna Estravillo<\/a>, as well as a +4 (74) from sophomore Sophie Korthuijs<\/a>, and the Cardinals combined to shot -6 (282). The effort shaved three strokes off the previous best team score of -3 (285) set at the 2023 Diamante Intercollegiate.

\n“Today was a really fun day,’ head coach Cameron Andry<\/a> exclaimed! “It’s always fun when you’re able to post some red numbers!”

\nPrior to Sunday, Gallagher’s lowest round for the Cardinals was -3 (69) set earlier this season in the opening round of the Brittany Kelly Classic (Sept. 15). She was able to beat that by one stroke in today’s round on the 72-par, 6,051-yard course at the Diamante Country Club with the help of five birdies. Three of which came on the course’s four par-5s. The effort has her tied for third overall among the 103-player field, two shots back of the event co-leaders.

\n“Sarah played a solid round of golf,” Andry said. “She managed her game well, played with a lot of discipline and made some putts which is always a good combination.”

\nLangerak tied for the best back nine effort on the opening day of the event, playing her closing holes at a combined -4 (32) with the help of five birdies. Her round tied the lowest of her Ball State career originally set in the second round of the 2023 Brittany Kelly Classic (Sept. 18).

\nEstravillo took one stroke off her previous collegiate best, with her round also including five total birdies, two on the front nine and three on the back. With their effort, both Langerak and Estravillo are tied for 13th overall heading into Monday’s second round.

\n“For Sabrina and Jenna to both shoot a couple under par today was really impressive,” Andry said. “Especially considering neither of them was able to see the course due to our practice round being rained out yesterday. They really managed their game well, played to what they could see and followed the game plan.”

\nRounding out Ball State’s countable scores Sunday was a +2 (74) from Korthuijs, who turned in a run of three birdies over five holes in the middle of her round.

\nSenior Jasmine Driscoll<\/a> was right behind at +4 (76). In addition, both of Ball State’s individuals, freshman Skylar Dean<\/a> and senior Madelin Boyd<\/a>, finished the day at +4 (76).

\nThanks to the program-record opening round, the Cardinals are currently tied for third overall among the 18-team field. Ball State is just four strokes off the pace of -10 (278) set by Boston College. Memphis is currently second at +7 (281), while Lipscomb is tied with the Cardinals.

\nRound two of the Diamante Intercollegiate is set to start at 9:30 a.m. ET \/ 8:30 a.m. CT Monday. Once again, the Cardinals will be in the final grouping with tee times starting at 11:09 a.m. ET \/ 10:09 a.m. CT.
