At the heart of the plan is the brazen and unprecedented extension of five state-owned coal-fired power stations, each by many years past their retirement dates and, implicitly, all beyond the year 2050. It\u2019s depicted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.treasury.qld.gov.au\/files\/Queensland-Energy-Roadmap-2025-25-043.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> in this graphic:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1202\" height=\"905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Image1-Report-figure.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1225407\"  \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 2021 and 2022, I <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1D9308ag7Ea9iWt6CCT-CP40klvJbjP0m83qQYjpXoLo\/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.vni54behs126\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tracked<\/a> what was then a flurry of news items announcing the \u201cearly\u201d closure of coal-fired power stations before their scheduled retirement dates.
